Kavanaugh Ridge! one could easily spend the entire day there admiring the view. i also recommend taking the short hike to check out the permafrost on the north facing slope.

Last year Christine and I went on 5 or 6 camping trips in the FJ.  The High Sierra trip was by far our favorite trip.  Steve did a wonderful job putting solid plan together... the basecamp area was in the perfect location.  Everybody was so welcoming.  Our tent was 10 feet from a stream, we could hear the water flowing from our tent.  We got lucky (planned) in that we always over pack and had extra blankets.  It dips down to the low 20's in the early morning at 6000 feet.  Then it climbs to the mid 80's by mid afternoon.

BZ, lead a pack of 7-10 rig on a very cool trail with many switch-backs.  We climbed 4-6 thousand feet on a easy to moderate trail.  It was only moderate because of the quick climb in altitude, a stock FJ could handle the trail.  The best part was the view at the summit.

After the scenic trail we decided to hit Mono Lake on the dustiest trail EVER. This year we need to rent a water truck to mat down the dusty trails so that we can see beyond the windshield.  Here's a picture of my view on that dusty trail.

Good times!  Thanks to everyone that made that weekend one to remember.

John

Just did the prerun, trail is good to the lake, some snow to play on for the kids.  Looks the same as we left it last September!  Also grabbed a quick Brook Trout out of the stream by the campground, plenty of unsuspecting fish eager to take a dry fly!  See you all up there on Monday, we are going through Yosemite, then heading down to Mammoth.  It will be Travis and I, Teri can't make it.

we usually camp off of Laurel Lakes trail just south of Mammoth Lakes. as for planning, i'll either open a thread or just PM everyone. in terms of prep, you won't need anything out of the ordinary outside of standard recovery and camping gear. having a Cleanwaste (PETT) toilet is recommended because we camp near a water source and it is primitive camping (no pit toilets, showers, etc.). also, i recommend planning out your days/week according to your interests. unlike other trail runs, we only schedule a few (2-3) trail runs and the rest is on your own (e.g. fishing, site seeing, hiking, rock climbing, natural springs, etc.).

We'll be there!!! Has a planning thread been started? Just want to start getting prepared. Do we know where we're camping?
