Yup that's right, I have a big ole crack in the front window...anyone know a "great" Auto glass installer that has experience replacing FJ windshields?   Preferably in the East or South Bay.

Thanks,

John

I've been able to last 2 years with only divots and small chips.  Just got back from Tahoe and yup, I've got a crack creeping from under my right wiper blade.  I'll be needing to have it replaced if it keeps cracking my way. Damn, damn, damn!

I'm only on the 2nd windshield since 2007.. no crack or chip the first year until we got back from Alaska (two little chips and one spider web shape about 2" wide, of which only one came from the dempster highway, rest came from the supposedly paved alaska highway), replaced it in 2008 and got one chip thanksgiving-ish on 205 driving back from seattle in 2009.. got the chip repaired and this year on the way to seattle from eastern washington we got another chip..

funny that my windshield survived almost all of the offroad trips we took.. not that we took many offroad trips but we do more of that then long, highway road trip...

oh. Safelite did both the replacement and chip repair (we did it through insurance), the guys did pretty good job but we seemed to be the few that thought safelite was good..

I only got 8700 on mine and I already got 2 chips.

Was wondering about a new shield myself when the time comes.

Just seems inevitable.

I was in Folsom Lake Toyota last night and ask about buying OEM glass and install.  Sounds like they are hungry.  They said big discounts (?) for 5 or more on a group shield replacement. They use a glass company to do the install.  My glass needs to be replaced, but I took another rock last night on Hwy 50 and have a new chip.  Rrrrrrr  FLT did say Toyota did address some replacement glass on early FJs (BE version) if they cracked without external impacts.

I will ask for more details if there is some interest.

Had mine replaced today at Best Auto Glass in San Jose(903 Commercial St.) for $206 out the door.

did they replace the top piece or were they able to salvage it?  Did you supply the clips or did they have them already?

Just curious as I am sure I will need it at some point.  Have read people preordering the parts and bringing them with them to the glass shop.

They supplied everything and assured me that they've done many FJ's.
Hey I still need to get mine replaced.  How long did this place take to replace yours, and where you able to drive it right away or did they tell you to let it set for 24hrs?

Hey Robbie,

It was a really fast turnaround.  Took it in at 10 AM got a call at noon to come pick it up.  They placed blue tape all around and asked that I leave the tape on for at least 24 hours.  I was able to drive it around but they asked me not to get a car wash for a few days.  Like I wash my car at the local gas station.  They also do window tinting I may need to go back and get Limo all around and 33% on the two front windows,

Sweet, I'll hit them up.  Got a narly line staring to run along the whole length of my windshield now......
what did Icon have to say???  Details man...
bump for the best windshield price and service found yet John FTW!
