FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Ok so I got a dime sized chip last February following a buddy on the highway up to USAL road for a camping trip. Well, said chip decided to grow 6 inches on that same trip and now, a year (almost) later it has grown to about 3 feet. Yup almost the whole windshield. So hearing all the horror stories out there, does anyone have a recommendation for an experienced (with FJs) glass shop? I'm in Modesto and will drive to the Bay Area if needs be. Also if anyone knows the part numbers for any clips that may break?

Hey Meestar Jim, I just had my windshield replaced two weeks ago at A-1 autoglass in stockton.  They charged about $240.  It only took about two hours without an appointment.  I don't think you need to drive all the way into the bay area.  So far, I am happy with their work and plan on taking one of our other cars there for some glass repair.

Hey there bkreece, were they already familiar with FJ windshield replacement? Any issues with the upper trim piece? Also did you request OEM glass to be used? Thanks!

I didn't request OEM glass.  In fact, after seeing the replies to your post, I specifically looked to see if I could find a brand name.  I found a small brand in the corner (can't remember the name now), def not OEM.  But for me, that doesn't really matter.  I didn't ask, but they must be familiar with FJ windshields as they were so quick to accomodate me on a drop in basis.  I figured I would stop by and make an appointment, they would have to order the glass and I'd be back in a week.  That was not the case.  No issues with the trim piece.  They reused it.  I am happy with their work.  I must admit I am hearing some wind noise ever so slightly that I do not remember hearing before.  Could be the ski racks I just put on or could be the new windshield.  It doesn't appear to leak any water so I am not concerned.

Good to know bk, thanks! I'm leaning towards looking them up...

I just got my first fish eye with tiny cracks.

Almost made it three years.

FJ's should come with a spare windshield.

I'm gonna try a kit. I used one on my old CRV and it worked great. That one was just a fish eye though no cracks.

Good luck! I agree about the extra windshield idea, lol!
