8/27/11 Long Canyon Cleanup - Planning Thread

This thread is being setup as a discussion for anything to do with planning for the clean up day at Long Canyon Trail. If you have questions or suggestions please post them here

Please make sure you have your forms turned in: http://norcalfjs.com/forum/topics/adoptatrail-longcanyon. There is supposed to be at least one Ranger meeting us to show us what they want done. They may check for proper forms, I am not sure.

The Event thread is here: http://norcalfjs.com/events/first-official-norcal-fjs-long

See here: http://norcalfjs.com/forum/topics/trail-cleanup-and-clearing for stuff we will need. Make suggestions if you think of anything else.

I think most of what we will be doing this run is picking up trash. There is one area in particular that I know is pretty messed up. We will likely spend a good bit of time there. If you have been to a Hollister cleanup day, we will be using a similar format. We will spread out several vehicle lengths apart and stop at intervals along the trail and pick up whatever we find.

Post up what you can bring for the cleanup effort.

I will bring:
large trash bags, so that is covered.
2 or 3 round shovels
1 square shovel
1 mattock
1 digging bar
1 pole saw
1 pruning saw
1 Axe
1 Hatchet
1 chainsaw
Lots of Water
First Aid Kit

Remember to bring:
gloves
lunch
water
sunscreen

There are toilets at the campground near the trailhead, none on the rail. Please plan accordingly.

Bump.

i don't have much equipment, but i'll bring a lopper and possibly a shovel. i'll have the usual stuff (e.g. first aid kit, etc.) as well.
btw, i've attached a scan of the area vehicle use map in the original post (see bottom of OP). kinda cuts off the access route from 50, but it's pretty straight forward if you can't meet at In N Out at 9:00 AM and need to head directly to the trail.
I'll bring various hand tools as well.
Sorry guys I have to back out.. I was going ot try to make it up there but I cannot do two weekends in a row away.. Next time for me.. Good luck and I hope lots of people show up to lend a hand..

Looks like I am being redirected to the west instead of to the East.  So, looks like I am out for this trip.

It would be great if we had a punch list for future trail needs with locations.  I wonder if the USFS has a GIS map of the Road/trail that could be updated with repaired, improved and protected sections.  If they do, we ask for the data layer(s) and drop on data and info related to NorCalFJ's efforts.

I'll have some hand tools but looks like it will be mainly trash pick up.

who needs a Trasharoo when a Taco bed is available.  j/k

see ya in the morn.

I took the yakima basket off so we can throw trash bags and other crap in the bed.
Hope all went well at the clean up. Sorry I did not make it up. The wife had to work overtime that morning and I was hoping to fix my rear LCA that I bent at DV. Nothing went as planned so no dice. Next time guys.

No problem Cha. I went into a valley when we were talking and lost the signal.

We had plenty of people and picked up lots of stuff.

We will likely do another one in early Nov.
