mh I got IW2NYD in 1997... but I began working with radios few years before that so I think 17 years ago I was starting this passion and I've been lucky to find a lot of friends with the same interest.
It has been just over 20 years for me..
I am be the newest HAMer.  ;)

90% done with the install in the FJ.  Hope to finish in Moab.
That was I "may" be the newest ...

19 Years -  Got my first license in 1992 as a freshman in High School.  Was KD6KZU back then.

Now - AG6I Extra Class

what is the value add of the extra class designation?

although you aren't required to change your call. I upgraded to extra and kept my 2x3 to keep it old school.

I'm kinda attached to my call KD6WJX, within my radio friends we tend to refer to each other by the 3.

Now if I was smart enough to have gotten the vanity call I wanted when it was available I would have changed to "K9BBQ"

That's basically it..

Better choice of callsigns, some additional HF segments, and the ability to sit on a VE team..

Plus bragging rights, and never having to think about upgrading ever again, unless of course you decide to go for the GROL or other commercial license, which is in another league entirely, since a amateur license doesn't actually buy you anything on the commercial side except the knowledge and experience to help you pass the test.

I was KC6SXC for 18 years, from Mar 1991 until Aug 2009, when I upgraded to extra. Now AF6RR.
I got my ticket in 1992.
