Hi, I finally decided to get a roof rack. The usage would likely be to carry stuff like a second spare, firewood, pull pal and other expedition stuff. I would not mind having the possibility to use it with a roof top tent, but I do not think I want to buy one now.

I'd prefer a lightweight (aluminum?) one...

Suggestions?

Don't for get baby stroller !!  heheheheee Oh  and and all the toys and crap you have to bring with you everywhere you go.

I believe the BAJA is the most bang for your buck. Of course you could go ARB or GOBI but those are well over $1,000 new.

There is also the choise with the BAJA to have the back with no rails for a RTT. I think they are also have one that sits closer to the Roof line, but I am not sure if they are selling this one yet.. I believe the BAJA was around $600 new but that may have also changed...

speaking of stroller is it even a good idea to put it on the roof rack?  (without the baby of course)

Yeah I need a roof rack mostly because the internal space will be taken by stuff for the baby ;)
Haha! You have no idea. I've got 3 girls. The amount of stuff required for me to take on a camping trip is insane.
It is much quieter in the cab if you strap the kids to the top instead of your stuff.
I agree to that !!

Why not put a stroler on the rack??

If you were going to drive like 12 hour it might not be a great idea due to wind damage.... But for around town, sure why not.....

ARB is the only one i know of that is a complete replacement. Frontrunner makes one that attaches to the factory rack. Another option is to use the ARB fit kit and put a frontrunner rack on that.
The BajaRack is a full replacement. I love mine. Totally solid. Makes a bit of noise on the highway but it isn't too bad. It sits really close to the roof line so the added height is too much.
Sorry I should clarify the ARB is the only Aluminum full replacement I know of.  Frontrunner offers a universal aluminum rack, intended to mount to factory roof rails.
There was an "African Outback" one that I saw on the Blue Room but apparently they stopped importing it.

The Baja is very functional and very light as well as sturdy and economical. Like Boss said, a lot of bang for the buck.

The flat version for the RTT seems like it may be pain if you were using it just as a storage rack for the lack of sides, things would need to tied on very well lest they go bye bye.
