For $100 all apprehension worry disapear forever.

Around Tahoe they close the roads before going to R3 level. If all you ever do is go to Tahoe, you probably won't be required to use chains on a 4x4.


Other areas of the Sierra's that do not have high traffic from tourists will keep roads open or may not plow as regularly. I like to know the area I am going, be aware of the conditions and prepare accordingly. I have had to prove I had chains around Yosemite and on eastern side of the Sierras.

 

Maybe I am crazy for wanting to be prepared for most situations. Also, usually bring my recovery gear with me to snow country since I have pulled half a dozen people out of snow banks and ditches over the last 2 years.
