FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Just throwing this out there because I've had it on my mind for some time. I know a trip to Baja would require some planning and maybe even someone with experience on the political side, but food for thought.

I would love to go down to Baja !!. Sounds like a blast!!
I would be down for that, I could bring a few mexican family members who know all about traveling down there, all the ins/outs, language, insurance, polictics, not getting ripped off, safety etc etc.
try and go when the tecate 1000 is taking place.....usually in Nov. "Got Sand?"
Not to burst anyone's bubble.. but right now it is really hot in Mexico. Many areas that have never before seen Cartel Violence are seeing the extreme part of it. People are getting kidnapped, ransoms are being demanded and even US Citizens are being taken to prove a point. So keep all this in mind when making any plans.
Yeah, no way I'd be going to Mexico. I'm just glad that I got to go to a few places before it all went to hell.
I'm planning on going in March, for the San Felipe 250 race. I'll also be going down next November for the Baja 1k.
Don't believe the hype. Just like gangs here in the US, they kill each other for the most. The few Americans that have been killed out of the millions that go there every year, have been involved in the drug trade or were very unlucky and got got in the crossfire. Something that can and does happen here on any given day.
If you deduct the gangland related murders from the statistics, visiting Mexico is safer than visiting most US cities. New Orleans, the most dangerous city in the US, is about 3 times more dangerous than TJ.
The state of Baja California Sur, where this expedition would go, is one of the safest states in Mexico and was specifically omitted from the Travel Warning issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
I am in, just give me enough advance warning so I can plan the vacation time.
Going durring prerunning for the B1K or 500 would be better than race weekends--too many drunks and traffic. If we were to go durring prerunning, we would have a course map to follow. Should we have major troubles, there will be more vehicles to lend a hand.
