FJ Cruisers of Northern California

This was something that arose in Rdkl's FS thread.

MR.FJT replied to a FS thread with items over priced. He pointed out, in public that these items were priced higher than the same items new. The OP became offended and called it rude, other members agreed. I on the other hand disagree and support MR.FJT.

To make this clear, this thread is not about MR.FJT or Rdkl, but rather to discuss peoples opinions as to etiquette in these threads.

I don't think that was Studovich, rather Mr.FJT. Anyway, I think the point of being overpriced could be made on the thread, but in a more diplomatic way, imo.
corrected it.. my bad.
I have done this several times. To a point I can see where it can get out of hand and twist the thread into an arguement instead of a FS/FT/WTB thread. But, I also see it as looking out for the community. Many people fail to understand that a person that posts a FS thread on a board is not just posting it in a classifieds section. They are posting it in a section that a community has designated to help members get deals and other sell what they no longer need.

I was always under the impression that when you join a board and contribute to it.... you are not just joining a group of unknown ppl, you are joining a group of ppl that you will get to know and become "Web friends" with. At least this is the case in the Blue Room. Now for this Room. We generally know one another, most of us are distant friends if not close friends. So why would it be wrong to post in public that the item being sold is over priced in comparison to the same item new?

It is like having a person from your neighborhood come up to you and a bunch of friends and tell you he has a an item for sale for X amount. One of your buddies jumps all over it and you know the item is overpriced. Do you pull the neighborhood person aside and whisper to them that you think it is over priced or do you yell out, "You're fuckin crazy dude, I can get that item new for much less? Is it rude then? Are we not a community of ppl that look to enjoy life and often become good friends? So why is it wrong to look out for one another? Again it is not the fact that saying something in public is wrong, it may have been in the manner of which it was said.

Lets say I would have contacted the FS thread poster and he decided not to change his price. The one of you bought it only to later find out I knew it was overpriced.... how would you feel? I would be like, "wtf man... why didnt you say anything?"

This is just my 2cents. Nothing against anyone... just my opinion.
I try as hard as I can to stick to, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all" when it comes to posting here on norcalfjs.com

I like to think we are all friends here, not just another forum group of strangers even though many of us have never met (but soon will if you come to a norcalfj event). As such we should treat others as friends, help them if they need it.

Don't be an a$$hat, treat others w/ respect.
Well said!!!
The problem I see is that the OP was selling an item, stated retail value, discounted it fairly. Then someone comes along and says "hey I can get a knockoff of that for cheaper". The JL Stealthbox and a Wicked Audio box are not the exact same thing. Similar, sure, but not the same product even if they both use the same subwoofer component, of which there are many different models so who knows that the subs are even the same. In fact the Wicked CAS box has a better sub, for less money. That still doesn't mean the OP of that thread was ripping anyone off.

If someone posted they were selling BudBuilt HD sliders cheaper than new, and someone else posted that they could get Trail Gear sliders for less than the used price would you say it's the same situation? Apples to apples, if someone is trying to charge more than new then sure call them out. When it's a different product that's similar, and not charging more than new price for the original item then it's up to the buyer to decide if it's worth it.
huh.....?
What you said in your original post isn't true. What was being sold was a JL Audio Stealthbox, what was used as a price comparison was a Wicked Cas sub box. He was not selling the Stealthbox for more than a new unit is, he was selling it at a $150-200 discount.

And the prices on the Wicked CAS box is higher, the cheaper price quoted was for an empty box, no subwoofer... so basically I think Mr. FJT was being rude.
okay... that is not what is being discussed here. Please read the top so you can make an appropriate comment in relation to the thread.
Then delete the first paragraph of your first post if you don't want it commented on. Sorry, I'm in a pissy f-ing mood today.

As far as etiquitte in FS threads, if someone is trying to sell a used item at the same or higher price than it can be bought new, they should be called out. Otherwise if you think an item is too expensive, but still cheaper than new just don't say anything and leave it to the buyer to decide.
To be honest I think this was already taken care of in the Riki orgional thread. Mr FJT Posted up and RiKi called him on it by saying he thought is was rude. Nothing else was posting so I can only assume Riki last statement was agreed by Mr FJK or Maybe even a PM was sent that I will never know about.

IMO I agree and thought is was kind of rude, but that is just my opinon. I also believe in this environment you should be able to post what you like. So I also agree with Hector in that when you post anything on a forum expect to get a response, even though it may not be the one you were looking for.

I would not have written that in a public thread, But I am a blunt person when I need to be so I can respect Mr FJT's honesty.

Lets all respect each other and there will be no Drama..
I know what's going on here...Hector has a lot of free time now that he's not watching the Cowboy's. 1-7 buddy, still want your hat? Oh, I thought it was a fair comment. Most of that stuff was way over priced, I offered $75 for the Mpac and he was cool enough to let it go for a good price. It's a free country, but lets respect one another..
