FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I am trying to make my own bumper. I like the old school FJ40 and the new FJ. I want to blend old with new. I was wondering what other people think. Thanks

The winch is the winch I have.

I photoshoped what I think I am looking for. See link below.

IT's very different, I think it looks a little too boxy. Perhaps, if you round it off a little.
Looks like it is really low as well...I would question it's impact on approach angle.
I was trying for that stuck out old FJ40 bumper look. I think I would have the tubing bent. Insted of the box. Yep I might need to raise the bar a bit. I am trying to keep the bull bar low. I am going to try again. Back to the drawing board.
nice idea - with the classic grill of the FJC a straight bumper like the 40's does go together - your on the right track if you get the portions right - the rounding of the tubing is a must because of the smooth lines of the FJC and the roof rack - but I'm not a designer sooooooo - anyway keep trying
The other issue you need to look at is that there is a lot of fragile cooling systems that this style of bumper will not protect.

If you look at almost all the bumpers out there they have to wrap around too keep the radiator, trans cooler, a/c condenser protected.
Yep you are right. I put exspanded metal across the front of the radiator. Not sure if you can see it. I used the stamp tool on photoshop to make the exspanded metal look. This should keep the big stuff out of the radiator and the A/C line.
Ok I posted the second drawing or photo shoped what ever. The bar at the bottom is the real bar that is behind the plastics. All I did was make it wider, from driver side to pass. So I do not think clearance is going to be an issue. I rounded the bull bar part as you can see. I am going to make a few before I go to a shop and have them make one. I put exspanded metal across the radiator and most of the parts you do not want to see and keep from breaking. What do you all think? I want to know the good the bad and what I forgot. Thank you to everyone that has replyed it really helps.

it’s getting there - have you tried it (the design) without clipping the look of the grill - not having the bull bar in front of the light rims and the grill at least lower to show the entire grill as in the 40's - really how many bull's do we need to push out of the way? - i like the black grating in the background - really most of the 40's just had everything "out there" for easy access when needed - if the grating is stout enough maybe two thicknesses of 1/8" - for brush driving you won't have any problems - no fluff -
I think OPG means they need to be protected from underneath, like when you are approaching a large rock.

The radiator and the A/C radiator hang pretty low in the front.
OIC...Ok..... Maybe a skid under to tie in with a Bud Built Skid? I need to make differnt side drawings. To make the perspective look right.
I also added the photo I started with. I have a Yellow FJ. I do not know who's Blue FJ this is.

I think you need to answer a few questions before anyone can give you advice.. Majority of ppl here look at function and style... but function first.

You need to let everyone know how you use your FJ..

Rock Crawling
Trail Exploring
Expedition
Desert/ Baja
Mall Crawling/ No Off Roading

.... this will help in your decision. If you do any type of off road activities, approach angle is always an issue. So keep this in mind. While the FJ40 bumpers are simple and functional they work well with the departure angle that the FJ40 provides... but the FJC, unfortunately has a terrible departure angle. Good luck on your search.
