FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hi, I had another flat tire last weekend while I was exploring the area near the 108 (by the way - that place is fantastic!)

Three of the tires I have right now are very used (and are still the stock ones).

I have a possible solution in mind: Nitto Terra Grappler AT 285/75R16 (I have 16" rims)

Any advice? I do not think I need MT tires, after all I do not do much rock crawling, most of my trips are just in very remote areas in Death Valley or other deserts, but of course I do not want to get something that would not allow to enjoy Moab a little, for example.

bye! Thanks
Alessio

I placed an order on DiscountTire Direct using the "code" we all got at AllCal. And the guy at the phone, Matt, made me even happier than that! I will now have to wait to the tires to be delivered.

He told me to think about the "certificate" they sell, 27 bucks per tire, that cover all sorts of damages on and off road within the lifetime of the tire.

Do you think it's worth it? I specifically asked if it is valid for damage that can occur off-road and he said it's included. Do you have experience with this kind of certificate?
Get the cert. for one tire and don't tell then which one.

Seriously, I would not. A hundred bucks would go half way towards a new tire. I think this is my next tire upgrade as well.
Alessio - hope to see you at HSR run with your new tires :-)
So I placed an order for the Nitto Terra Grapplers 295/75R16 but today the guy called me, with their surprise they do not deliver these anymore, or anyway they do not have an ETA.

He said he would send me the BFG of the same size, for the same money; I took some time to think about it. The BFGs are more expensive but I read they are based on an older design. I do not know if they are going to fit on the 7.5" wide rims I have. Any suggestion? The other possibility is Terra Grappler in a different size (285) (with the due discount)

What should I do?
285's are good, I haven't needed bigger
Alessio, we run the BFG's on all our Ranger Trucks, I go all over dirt roads, mud, and even the beach and have had no issues with them. My Ranger truck is a Ford F350 V-10 w/ a Utility Bed, so it's very heavy and still the tires perform very well in the sand. I just air down to 20 lbs. and I can go all over Stinson Beach. I'd go for them,

Ranger Jim
