UPDARE:
Truck is back home. Had the 3rd Member replaced. When I took
it back after the service they checked the diff oil again and it was
black and contained metal shaving's. Thought they would change
it out and not have to have me come back a thrid time.
Ready to hit the trails.

Can someone please pass along the website for checking on
Toyota Technical Bulletins. Took my truck in today because
of some noise in the rear and was told that the Diff Gear Oil
needed to be changed and that there was a new gear oil
for 07/08 FJ's. I would like to find out more info on this.
I also had the 30,000 mile service done on it.

They changed the Gear Oil and I was told to drive it for a
while and see if the "noise" goes away. They say the noise
was in the rear and  that this would probably fix it. To me it
seems louder and I do not think that driving it will make it
better. It sounds like the gears are not engaging correctly.
No grinding noise though.

I dont see how changing the oil will help. Did they say what oil it changed to? It should be 75w90. I always used Redline synthetic with good results. Tell them it's still making noise maybe be threy'll give you a new rear end.
Thanks
This is it. Why if it should be 75W90 would they say and put 75W85 GL5

I am trying to understand what they did and why. After what they charged me maybe I should learn to change my own oil. Spark plugs were an insane price also.
Diff gear oil for FJ's changed from LX 75W-85 API GL-5 SAE 75W-85 to 75W-85 GL5 synthetic gear oil for 07/08.
Oops I just realized you wanted bulletins and I posted a link to the manual.

Try this instead

Thanks - this is exactly what they gave me at the dealers
75/90. When they changed it did they mention excessive metal shavings on the drain plug? I believe the plug is magnetic. Mine @30k had quite a bit of metal on it. It was within normal limits though.

Is yours an 07?
Yes, it is an 07. He said the oil was black and had metal shaving's. It was not excessive.
I don't think you would be able to tell the difference between 75W-90 or 85 for years if at all. It is not critical and both have been recommended. The key word being recommended. I highly doubt that the gear oil itself is causing the noise but there may have been damage due to the lack thereof in the past.
I just dont know. Maybe I should get a couple of you to check it out. I am sure if you drove it you would be able to tell. I do not want any problems as I am hitting the trails all summer. Vegas next.
I would have someone else listen to it and look at it. Maybe one of us or another dealer or mechanic you can trust.

If your rear end is noisy then I doubt the gear oil will make it quieter over time.
