FJ Cruisers of Northern California

The road is scheduled to open Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. They usually swing the gates earlier to avoid cars waiting in line causing a hazard--and they may have already swung them open or will do so later tonight.

Due to a power outage in the Tuolumne Meadows area since last December-ish, they cannot run the water and sewer systems, the TM Store, or the gas station, so there will be no services in the Tuolumne area for (hopefully only) a couple more weeks. From the west, the last services in the park heading east will be at Crane Flat. From the east heading west, I think it will be Lee Vining.

The road will be subject to closure if we get some spring storms.

Also, it looks like the Merced River in Yosemite Valley will sneak up a little over flood stage this Saturday and Sunday nights--and maybe more. It shouldn't cause major problems, but some roads may have limited or restricted access temporarily while the water clears. It is just getting too darn hot too fast on that big snow pack.

Cool thanks for the info!
Great info THANKS!
Something happened... moments ago, NPS annouced over the radio that the road is closed with "hard closure," no traffic public or government.
Wow... wonder what that's about??
Avalanche ?
Here's the deal I learned in a meeting this morning....they were ready to open the road and sometime during the night, a culvert was plugged. They don't know if it was snow and ice, a rock, part of a tree, or what...but it clogged it and the road started getting washed out underneath it. They got pumps on the backup and have hoses running over the road to keep the water from going under the road. They hope to have it resolved late-late today and open the road tomorrow morning. I'm headed out of the park for a few days, so anyone looking to travel thru should call 209-372-0200, followed by option 1, and then option 1 again.

Happy Trails!
D.
