I need to get motivated
I bought a complete rear axle, disk break to disk break with 4.56's and e-locker. I need to remove the 3rd member and install it in my FJ.
The problem is I am simply not motivated. The axle is heavy and I'm still getting back to a normal schedule after the oil spill.
At the very least I should get the 3rd member out.
I need some positive encouragement to start this project.

I'm in Turlock, just south of Modesto. No problems or issues with my current gears. I just wanted a lower gear ratio and this opportunity came up.
Company is welcome. Beer and food is plentiful.

well i dont know much about rear axle or anything like that...I've only install F/R suspension but I'm willing to help I'm at my moms place here in Stockton I'll give u a hand if you want. Not doing anything.

Are you swapping out the whole axel as a whole? Or just the 3rd? Almost thinking it'd be easier to swap the whole axel out. What about the front? I just got the runner re-geared with 4.56. If you weren't so far away, I'd help you out.
Just do it...there is my encouragement for ya'.

I'm planning on just doing the 3rd member. I honestly never gave it any thought about the whole axle.
The front is being done by Inchworm. They have a clam shell and my gears already. I just need to get up there deliver some parts and have it installed.
Your right. I just need to do it. I'm thinking about removal of 3rd from spare tomorrow and install of 3rd next weekend. Then drive to IW and have the front done.

You can't drive the rig with different gear set in the rear, so you'll need to get the front done at the same time as the rear. At least for MT thats true, not sure about AT transmission.
How's that for motivation, lol.
Oh, and btw, I found a kick arse deal for gears + install. Way better than any place I've seen, but you've already got your gears so it's a moot point.

You actually can. You just can't put it in 4wd. I've got an auto.
But it's still motivating. Your right though, I just need to do it.
How's the runner with 4.56's? Could you tell the differnce? I'm sure it's more responsive.

Can't really tell too much of a difference yet, I'm still driving 50mph for break in. But it wasn't too bad with the stock 3.73 gears in the first place, I haven't added that much weight yet.
So if the front doesn't move, then how do you break in the fron gears? Does that mean you drive in 4H for 500 miles?

That's a great question. I asked Jeremy at Jt's gears that when I bought my gears. He said that you need to break in the rear. I'm guessing that's what your doing now. Drive, cool, drain..
For the front he was very vague. He said you need to drive in 4wd for a total of about 50 miles and drain. Replace with fresh. Then at 500.
My plan was to drive it on our dirt/gravel roads at work in 4wd for about a week and drain/replace.
