Recommend a shop for body mount chop

Hey All,

Can anyone recommend a local shop to do the mount chop? Pictures of your completed chop would be very helpful!

I did this to mine at the petaluma meet and wrench.
This guy in the Blue cut off way to much. IMO
We just had a big piece of steel that we cut each plate out of after we did each chop. We used a piece of paper and traced out each templet custom for each truck and cut. .

A plasma cuter makes everything MUCH easier.

It may be easier to cut out each plate after the cuts. Unless there is some kind of template we could use to trace on each truck.. Then make the cuts

I don't think there's a need to cut all that off, as shown in that thread. Only the part that extends further than other parts of the wheel well. There are lots of threads on this in the Blue Room. I like the thread by BellyDoc... makes most sense to me.

I think they were using a reciprocating saw at the Petaluma install day last May.

But I used the Plasma Cutter

Plasma Cutter all the way.. Its the only way to cut

Getting it on there would be child's play, what would be hard is getting the nozzle to where the cutting needed to happen.

Maybe we should just cut the cap pieces with the waterjet.

That is an excellent idea to get the blanks cut ahead of time. When Mark did mine and Tater's he fit a custom one each time which was time consuming.

That's kind of where I was going, make it a semi production line where we could do the cut and come in right behind the saw and weld, the same piece over and over.

We just need to come to a consensus on exactly where to cut it and have some sort of fixture or marking device to cut everyone the same.

Sounds like a god plan WE only need to cut off the part the sticks into the wheel well. But I am down for what ever

This plan don't need no divine intervention Boss,

Just some cool metal cutting equipment, a little bit-o-steel and an electrical circuit...

Let's do one as a test and then a production. If anybody needs to do it quick, post up, if not, I'll do it.

I used a 4" cutting wheel and reciprocating saw. Then I had Mark (2007fj) box it in for me. FYI, you can also adjust the caster, moving the tire forward so that you don't need to do the chop. Good option if you're only running 33".
