I made a bracket to use the "defender series" axe&shovel mount on my OEM rtoof rack, stainless 3/16"X1"X6"(I'll paint it black later) I orderd it from offroadunlimited.com $36.58plus S&H and tax=$59.20 out the door.
today I added a cross brace to the lower two bolts.probubly does'nt need it,but I had another piece of bar stock leftover that was just the right size.
I don't mean to be critical, but can't a thief just unbolt the bracket and take the whole works off of the rack?
In order to secure the tools and bracket to the rack, it seems to me that you need to cut a hole in the rear plate of the bracket (the part I assume the lock is attached to with a hasp) so that you can also cable lock the bracket to the rack OR just weld the nuts in place so that they can't be removed w/o cutting (assuming that the bolts and nuts are common and easily replaceable).
The former idea is easier and I'd be interested in buying the bracket to use w/my FourTrek set up in order to secure the tools to the rack. I tried looking for the bracket on the site you mentioned, but couldn't find it. Please provide the link if you still have it. Thanks!
good idea, but i'm just trying too deter the spur of the moment thief.i'll think about making it more secure, thanks.you can find the "defender"axe and shovel mount @ offroadunlimited.com,$36.58 plus S&H. hope this helps, let me know.
