FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Just wanted to say Hi....got my new 2010 TT the day after Xmas.

I've always liked the vintage FJ40 and I stare everytime I see a nice specimen but I am not mechanically inclined so when Toyota came out with the FJ Cruiser in 2007, I thought they did a great job of designing and capturing elements from the original FJ but without the worry of it breaking down.

Shortly after, I went to a dealer and saw the price is reasonable, especially given the fact that they were made in Japan but never thought I would end up with one. My wife told me that you always look at them so why don't you get one?

Fast forward to Xmas 2009, and here I am :)

I really don't know much about 4WD vehicles and have never went off roading as I'm used to driving compact sports cars so I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here.

I know I'm going to be asking some dumb questions so please forgive me, I'm not just a FJ newbie, but a 4WD newbie, too! :)

Welcome
Keep an eye out on the NorCal FJ Trail Run Planner (under Forums) for trail runs happening throughout the year. We also hold social events and install days. Those events are great ways to meet people. We regularly hit up Lucky 13 in Alameda on a Friday evening. Look forward to meeting soon.
Hi Mrs. Bozly,

Thanks for your reply. I would definitely like to attend some of the events. Is there a signup list to have emails sent or do I just have to check into the forum regularly?
welcome to the site! the best way to "subscribe" for information on upcoming socials is to visit the NorCal FJ Socials page, scroll to the bottom and click on "Follow – Email me about new discussions in this category." you will be notified each time a new social gets posted. or if you are an RSS guy, you can just click the RSS icon on the bottom left of the page and add the feed to your reader or smartphone.

we keep track of the socials on the NorCal FJs Trail Run Planner as well, but many of the socials are last minute posts, so "Follow" or RSS would be the best way to keep track of them.
Thanks for the tip, I just followed your directions and am now "following" the page :)
Welcome to the site.

There are many of us on here that had never wheeled before getting into the FJC. Most people on here will give ya a hand and help you out with whatever you might need. Like Mrs B said there are lots o socials and install days to get out to meet people and check out mods that some people have done. Keep your eyes open for trail runs and such on here (NorCal)..

Don't worry about "dumb" questions.. If you have a questions post up and one of us will try to help ya. We may pick on a bit but its all in good fun.. LOL
I'm totally cool with everyone picking on my dumb questions :)

Really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting some lights installed :)

Hi Bozly (John),

I will definitely take you up on your offer sometime soon :)

You have a Sandstorm with a white top? Did you by chance get it at what used to be Alameda Toyota on Park St. because I saw one there before. It was the first time I saw the Sandstorm color and I mentioned to my wife that it was a great color for a FJ but I would not get that color on any other car, only on the FJ.
Yes, I'm a white topper and no I didn't get it in Alameda, did the Costco deal in Dublin.

I agree, SS is great on the FJ, hides pin striping better than any other color does, but on any other vehicle not so sure how it would work.

Stop in anytime and say hi.
I bought mine from Dublin too but I didnt know about the Costco deal. Do they extend Costco deals to FJ nowadays? Now I feel I didn't do as well as I did at all :( I paid close to MSRP because no one else in the area had one for me to negotiate with and I wanted the sales tax break that expired at the end of 2009 :(
Welcome to NCFJs.
Great color choice!
Did it come w/ the hood black-out? If it did I would love to see some detail shots of the leading end. I'm thinking of putting it on my FJ but want to know how close the aftermarket vinyl resembles the real deal. thanks.
Thanks.

I will take a closeup pic of it for you but the weekend I bought it, it was raining and then the next morning, the street cleaners were using a blower so I didn't feel like taking a pic of a dirty rig...lol
