How many of you have heard about or checkout out Overland Journal?
I have to say of all the magazines I read these days it is in my opinion the best written at this time. I'm really tired of the recycled stories and the Jeep centric stories and how to's ( yes they are the majority). And really how many tire reviews do we need a year? it seems like every other issue is a tire review in Peterson's or Four Wheeler. As much as I love Toyota Trails from TLCA, it's getting thinner and thinner with each issue. I love Crawl but it's about stuff most of us won't do in our FJC's and most of us dream about building a rock buggy.
I got turned on to Overland Journal about a year or so ago and I was amazed on how brilliant the writing is. The articles are well researched and very well written. The overall theme to the magazine is exploration driving so not much in the way of rock crawling or mudding. It's a very different perspective on our sport. I also believe that there is a growing number of us that are looking at expedition style trips to change up some of the runs. I know I want to run So this kinda fits a niche for some of us here.
They do some great comparison reviews on products the fall issue was water purification, and the current winter issue is sand ladders. there is also a great article on 7 knots you should know. Just not stuff you would see in your normal everyday 4x4 mag.
Now understand overlanding is a bit more Land Rover centric, but you do see a lot of Toyota Land Cruisers in the magazine. You don't see to many FJC's in there yet but it's still relativity new in the grand scheme of life of overlanding.
The only bummer about Overland Journal is it's pricey 10 bucks an issue and only comes out 5 time s a year and it's not available in stores you have to order it from them as a subscription or you can order one off issues. It's worth the price of the subscription, I have yet to be disappointed.
