With all of this rain, ID LOVE TO GET RID OF THE A-TRAC!!! I have been reading up and I guess i have to cut the wire. Is there another way to do this without messing up the wiring harness?

Well, something like that.

It's not get rid of it, it's more being in control of it and use it like the other tools we have on the FJ for different situations. No body wants their locker or A trac on all the time, try running a sandy steep hill with A trac or turning in a tight radius with the locker on, aint gonna happen, hence we can turn them on when needed.

Being in control of the vehicle is subjective. If you "get on it" on a dirt road and VSC is in control you will still get going but with no wheel slippage and in basically a straight line with limited power because VSC is limiting power, so it's very in "control" and "safe" no matter who is driving. (this limits law suits)

If VSC were disabled, temporarily, the FJ could actually "get a wheel" so to speak and be in total control of the driver. On high speed desert runs, forest service roads and such this would be a ball but "control" would rest completely on driver skill and this is not "quite as safe" as a computer controlling many different aspects of the vehicle in split seconds as best as the programmers can write code. (this could cause a law suit)

There's nothing to say just because wheels are spinning you are "out of control", there are plenty of people that can drift a vehicle at 100 plus mph, on pavement, I'm not one of them, but 30 or 40 mph in the desert or loose wide open space, I can handle that and NOT having a computer limit the power you want to give to the skinny pedal is priceless.

Just my .02¢ and it really does come down to being "safe" or "in control" and they are NOT always synonymous!!
The VSC is horrible in the snow! Also as I found out, when trying to merge into traffic, while the road is wet and on a hill... It let me get half way into the intersection when it cut off the power and the pulsing started to cut in and out. This means that I was unable to move while in the middle of traffic and cars heading my way fast! Not fun. Its not to drive like a nut, I can do that on the track. By the way you don't want the WRX you want the EVO... just an FYI.

It's a trip how different people have different experiences with the same machine. I have never had anything like that happen. And Oregon provides plenty of opportunity to get into trouble in the rain. If I'm in snow, I stay in in 4Hi or Lo. So no issues with VSC for me.

And yeh, I would take an EVO too, but honestly, I really prefer the AWD of the WRX. I've driven both. But I know what you mean! hahaha
I've really been thinking about this for awhile and I've finally made my decision and I'm doing this hack when I get time to do it maybe when I get my Icon's and install it and I will do the hack at the same time.....
it is tempting, when I was at moon rock I was running around in 4H because of the VSC
im not sure, but i think you unplug the harness..you dont have to cut the wire..when you unplug it, you WILL have lights on the dash, but it wont mess anything up...i think
that is the least invasive way to do it but you'll lose ABS and you have to stop the rig get out and unplug it instead of pressing a button and yer good to go......
I think you all are confusing TRAC (traction control) and VSC (stability control).

VSC keeps you from oversteering into a ditch (by braking the out side rear wheel) when you are trying to dirt track a corner.
TRAC keeps your tires from spinning due to excessive power, or slippery road conditions.

TRAC in the snow would be an exercise in frustration. VSC keeps you on the road, and is generally a good thing*.

* unless you are Brandon, and just like hanging your a$$ out playing Dukes of Hazard.
Isn't traction control part of VSC when in you are in "D" (drive, 5AT)?
