FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I am setting up another run to the Long Canyon Trail in the El Dorado National Forest. For those of you who went before, we are going to do the rest of the trail as well this time. I have not been on this part, but Red Rock Crawler has. I do not think the rest of the trail is any more difficult than those parts we have already been to.

For those that are new to four wheeling this is a good trail to start.

Post if you are interested in going. The date has been set for 9/20.

The following people are interested:

Donnyb
Botched (Gustaf Fjelstrom)
Red Rock Crawler
DHeigher

It is not terribly difficult for the most part, but there are a couple parts I would say were moderate. I have done the moderate parts on my own with my stock FJ. I posted pictures and video from previous runs of the most difficult part. There is a bypass around this if it makes you nervous. A .gpx file of the trail is attached below.

A map of the area can be found at the following website http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/recreation/travel/index.shtml

The map is named MVUMPlacervilleSide02.pdf and the Long Canyon Trail head coordinates are approximately:
38 45 N
120 15 W

As a start point, let's meet in the Safeway parking lot in Cameron Park. The address is actually Shingle Springs on most map software.

3380 Coach Ln
Shingle Springs, CA 95682

This should give us plenty of space and a place to pick up any last minute items.

If you want to go, let me know and be at the Safeway Parking lot listed above at 9:30. We will leave at about 9:45 or so. If you are running late and miss us getting to the trail is easy.

Continue up Hwy 50 toward Tahoe, just past Kyburz (about 30 min. from Cameron Park) take a right on Silverfork Road

A few miles up Silverfork Road, take a left on Long Canyon trail (dirt road) Watch for the sign on the right. The Forest Service Map is pretty good to follow.

I will have a CB on Ch 31 and 7/31 on FSR. Mobile phones do not work well in the trail area.

Be prepared for changeable weather.

Hmmm.... Just might be able to get up there for that one. How long do you anticipate the run taking? (Just trying to gauge my time commitments).
About 4 hours + stopping for lunch.
Sounds like fun! I can't do Sunday but have a great time!
I maybe up for this run.
Looks like Marauder713 and I might run the trail sometime mid week as he is off to school later in the week. He is looking for one more run before the book worms get him until Surf and Turf.

So... we can't run on the 20th. But, we will try to get the tail in this next week. We may be looking at a late day/evening run. It might be fun to see the sun set on Pyramid Peak from across the canyon.
Looks like I'm a go for this one… As long as you're okay with a total newbie! Just let me know if there's anything special I need to have/bring/prepare. Thanks!
Great, don't be concerned about newbie status. I am no expert, but I have been on this trail many times. There are bypasses around the couple of parts that may give you concern, but even they are not hard.

This is an easy trail, just bring your lunch!
If you are planning to go on this run, please confirm by replying to this post.

PM me if you want my Mobile Number.
I''ll be there.
I'll be there.
We can't run on the 20th. We will be on the road to SLO..... But we are planning to run Friday early am. Hopefully we won't leave any parts behind. Weather should be good.

Have a great run!
I would roll up there on Friday too, but I have a little thing called work tomorrow morning...
