What was your previous mileage? Did you do any other mods?

It doesn't sound right to me. I have a CAI, 285/75/16 ..plus other stuff and I get about 125-140 miles on a half a tank.

You might give it a tank or two before the computer resets.

I agree you need to reset the computer, the computer only learns when at full throttle, be careful don't get a ticket.... gimme a call if ya want I'll explain more

I didn't unhook the neg battery cable when I install would that be a problem for the comp ?

Yes I would unhook the battery for a few minutes and then allow two or three tanks for the computer to adjust.

No other mods. Bad mileage after cai. Still stock tires

First of all - I'm not an expert.

I do know that the computer takes time to recognize any changes that occur. I would give it another tank or two and see if it improves.

I also have the TRD CAI and I like it. NO problems or issues.

Fuel milage can depend on so many different factors. But it seems to me that those mods you installed are designed to make air flow better. Every time you open something up to give it more power you lose something else, like gas milage.

What kind of drop did you get??

What was your milage before and then after ?

Are you using a different grade of gas??

Has your driving style changed? I know me personally I would like the sound of a new exhaust and I would want to hear it more loudly if you catch my drift. So I would tend to have my foot in it more.

Normally more horse power = less fuel economy.. Of course I am not and expert and I do not have the CAI installed in my truck. My exhaust is split at the back and ran out both sides. It kind of weird how the dealership did it but it makes it sound better.. I hope this helps....

I don't agree with that equation on fuel economy. I think if you have an engine that makes 239hp, then you open it up with an intake and exhaust. Now that same engine is making 241hp (estimate). That would mean the engine is more powerful, so it does not have to work as hard to propel you down the street. That should translate to better fuel economy, not worse. K&N has been saying this for years that installing their filter will get you better gas mileage.

If you are driving normally, you should see better fuel economy. Of course if you are putting the hammer down to hear the cool sounds of your new intake and exhaust, then all bets are off...

Hmm. Not sure I agree with what you have stated either. But each to their own. Yes you are right K & N has been saying that for a long time. But this benefits them in terms of sales so I would say that there is a chance that there is a bias with them so they can sell their product..

Its always been my experience that when you give it more horse power then you loose gas mileage. Every time something is gained something else is lost.. Perhaps you have had different experience then I. Also most of the stuff I have built has been older with a carb and no computer. Maybe that is the difference right there because the computer can make up the difference..


Of course like I said before if it were me I would have my foot in it more and I would loose the gas mileage..
I know I would feel the loss. LOL

2 cents here. When I fist bought my truck I had it lifted and put new tires on. That lowered my gas mileage. Then I added a CAI to the truck and at first cause the pretty sound it made I had worse gas milage cause it only sounded good at 3-4000 RPM. I saw the gas gauge move to empty pretty quick. After a few months the fun sound got old and I tested my truck up and back from Tahoe and I gained back almost all the mileage that my larger tires sucked from my gas tank. No other engine or exhaust mods either. Just the CAI.
