FJ Cruisers of Northern California

All,

I thought I would post this here. Anyone who might be looking for a new Toyota, may, or may not, want to steer clear of Antioch Toyota. A good read, but bottom line the OP negotiated the deal, bought, and paid for his new FJ, and many months after the sale, Antioch Toyota realized they forgot to charge sales tax. If you can get away with getting no sales tax, Antioch Toyota is your place, otherwise, their after the sale tactics, should make you stay clear.
A good read:

Sorry, should have stated, month later, rather than many months.

Wow, that's crazy. Thanks for spreading the word here.

I ONLY go to Dublin Toyota for service, and ONLY to the rep Mike Ganenko.

I have sent a few people to him. Excellent rep, great service.

Bought mine in NC

I take mine to Mike as well.

No getting away from sales tax but the purchaser would have done better to go to DMV directly and pay through them which would also red flag the dealer by DMV and they would deal with them on fines, etc. They clearly screwed up but a buyer will not get away with not paying sales tax because that is state law.

I bought my FJ from St Louis, Mo and when I went to register at the local DMV that is where I wrote a check for sales tax for this state. No big deal really, I think Antioch Toyota will get a rap from DMV and it will be over.

Otherwise I would say the only time to re-visit a dealer after purchase is: #1 warranty repair, #2 Re-calls.

Find a good local mechanic at www cartalk.com/mechanix files. and save.

Steve.

He got a lawyer. Lawyer said they don't have a leg to stand on and he doesn't owe a dime. Read the whole thread.

Interesting, somewhat. I did read the thread.

The dealer making a mistake does not circumvent State Sales Tax Law. The purchaser owes sales tax.

A cursory glance at the law would tell you the buyer is paying sales tax to the State of Ca at the end of this. Send me a message if it goes the other way.

Steve.

Lol. I meant I read it. Oops. No offense

Interesting. Thanks for sharing this. I get service at Antioch Toyota, because I live in Brentwood. The service there is "just OK" - they don't really seem to want to go out of their way at all. There's an office I can work out of in Pleasanton, within walking distance of Dublin Toyota, so I might hit up Mike G for my next service....

Can't say enough good things about Mike.

Tracy Toyota takes care of NorCal FJ Members, let them know you are a member and hooked up on parts

Interesting omission. Good thing the OP consulted a lawyer. Sucks to add another dealer to the possible no go list.

I already avoid Santa Cruz Toyota. That place employs more tools in sales and service than the techs have in their tool boxes.
