I'm not one, but work with them closely and we all live and work in the park together, so the feelings are the same.

Hopefully this ends soon.

David - I've been wondering about you since the park has been closed.  Are you able to at least stay in the park?  It has been very difficult for me to not be able to come at first due to the fire and now the shutdown.   This is the longest at ten weeks since my last visit.  I'm getting very homesick! I too hope this ends soon so I can get back to the happiest place on Urth.

It could end the day Obama signs the bill that funds everything except socialized medicine.

But he won't because he wants to punish republicans via the media who blame them for closing Bambi.

When dad takes away the credit card, he's the bad guy.

(if anyone wants to counter this, it is their right and duty. I will not respond)

Yeah, we've been hanging in there.  All employees in the park (NPS and our company) have been allowed to stay even tho most are not working.  Fortunately, because of my job, we actually stayed employed and busy during the shutdown.  Normally we are a small part of the operation here, and when the shutdown happened, we became the primary operation.

Legally, none of us can recreate (as in recreation, not the other thing....), so no trail hiking, climbing, golfing, etc.  Yosemite Valley was not part of the internal closure just because we need to move around, do errands, work, and just go for a short walk.  Not having all the visitors (and many of our employees took off to visit family), has allowed the wildlife to quickly come back into the developed areas.  On a regular basis, I see bears and a ton of deer and other critters.  But the past 2-4 weeks, they have really been moving around freely here.

I'll stay away from the political end of this, I'd be considered a moderate in my party, although this is the one time I've felt the strongest to convert to Independent.  I think there is enough blame to go around to all parties.  Hopefully Congress will do the right thing here in the next couple hours, and we can start openning everything back up.

If anyone heads this way, whenever, I'd love to meet, even if it is a quick face-to-face.  Just let me know when you are planning to come to Yose, and I'll give you my contact info.  I've had Nestor and Cowboy stop by a couple-three times, and some members of the other forums too.

Cheers!

I definitely will stop by next trip.

Are you saying that wildlife is being allowed to recreate in the park? This seems so unfair! If the park is shut down it should be shut down. Why are they not getting the message? Someone should be assigned to better enforce the closure.

Meetings-meetings today.  We are ready to open tomorrow.  All we need is a green light from the Feds.

Park is open--officially!  (About an hour ago.)

This is great news!
