FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Good day to everyone. Really would like some input on this. Rear bumper suggestions and does the rear suspension need to be changed due to added weight? Thanks for your time.

I did not change anything in the rear when I added a steel rear bumper with a tire carrier (a little over 100lbs). It dropped it about .5".

If you have not lifted it yet but plan to, you should contact a suspension shop. Let them know what kind of weight you will be adding and what kind of ride height you are looking for. It will save you a few bucks because you will get it right the first time. Try Downsouth Motorsports, they're cool down there.

On the front I did swap out the coils. I went to 700lb springs for the coilovers to make up for the bumper and winch weight.

Nice rig. What bumper is that? Looks sweet.
Thanks...
Its an Expedition One rear w/carrier. They are nice and fit like a glove too.

Another alternative is the ARB steel bumper. It does not have a tire carrier and is cheaper, but having seen this Expedition One below, that's a thing of beauty. I have not made my decision yet but I like the EO with tire carrier. I think a local Sacramento guy has this too, would love to see it in person.

Whichever rear bumper you go with expect a lot of plastic trimming, unless of course you have it installed.

Steve.

You can get these bumpers too without a tire carrier. I had plans for mounting a HF antenna from it s thats some of the reason why I went with a carrier. I don't think any are any heavier than this (around 120lbs) and it only dropped about a half inch. The trimming isn't bad, I used a reciprocating saw. I was just in sac on Saturday.

I have read the Metal Tech rear bumper accommodates the factory 2 inch hitch receiver. Does the EO?

Or do they have an optional receiver? I need the receiver for a bicycle carrier. Thanks.

Steve Hope

yeah, it fits the factory hitch

That red eye rear bumper with swingout from Metal Tech 4x4 looks pretty damn sweet as well. I like the swingout and jerry can holders. http://www.metaltech4x4.com/p-744-red-eye-fj-cruiser-rear-swing-out...

A bit pricy but love the look and usefulness.

I guess we should hurry and get one since it has taken all this time for the aftermarket to come up with a good steel rear bumper with tire carrier....as the last year of FJ  production was announced!!!!

Steve Hope.
