Overland Journal now has a digital edition

I've posted about Overland Journal (OJ) in the past. In my personal opinion it is one of the best magazines out there today. While it's not a FJ Cruiser magazine it's a magazine that is written about all types of rigs but isn't jeep centric like 4Wheel & Off Road. It's great to read about the different expeditions around the world. The gear reviews are also well done and you can tell that they take pride in the way that they do them, the spell out all the testing criteria for each piece of equipment they test. Last the photography that is in each issue is breath taking and inspiring to get out and explore.

With that out of the way, the digital edition is currently available on iPad, iPhone and Kindle. you can buy single issues for 11.99 or get a yearly subscription for 44.99 which is 5 issues a Spring,Summer,Fall,Winter & Gear Guide issue. Which btw is the same as the print issues. It is not a cheap magazine and the quality of the writing and the overall content justify the price. 

The one bummer is that they are not providing a hybrid subscription program at this time. So if you want both the digital and the print you have to pay for them separately, which is kind of a bummer if your like me and already have a multi-year subscription. Since I have every issue I want to continue my collection going forward the digital edition isn't going to be in the cards for me until they allow a a hybrid subscription model.

Now if you don't already subscribe to the print edition then this is a great way to start reading. I purchased one issue (there are 4 available as of 9/3/13) to test on the iPad and I was impressed that they have enabled smart linking in the articles and the ads to easily go to the manufacture pages. Overall it is a good digital magazine experience.
