12k for a RIG, what would you do?

wow, thank you guys for all the replies, now i am more confuse than ever and need to look at it and understand the advantage and disadvantage of each option. I don't think i will go crazy with my FJ,, but i like to go back country camping, not rare to be miles away from civilization and just me and my girlfriend, the last thing i want is to get stuck 30 miles away from civilization in the mud or because of a breakdown. That said, i rig that bring reliability (protection) and a good all around dirt road / off road setup.

Dude, it's a Toyota. They almost never break down.

Except when you blow a Birfield. Or break the frame at the front driver's side junction. Or the transmission input shaft bearing fails and all the gears except 4th chew themselves up. Or the alternator blows a fuse. Or...

(You don't have Birfields - unless you do a solid axle swap).

I was in a similar situation a few months ago but with a budget of 6k. I have blown all of it on protection and reliability mods(skids,diff skid,sliders,links),recovery gear,tires (just had them done),radios(just need to install), some light cosmetic bling and some mpac gear and also some bilstein 5100's to level out the front until I do suspension.

  Taking some of the advice given here to hold off on some items and figure out what i really need/want has helped slow my roll.That being said bumpers and suspension are next and will be another 5k and are part of my 6mo plan. There are so many choices and spending allot of time on research and seeking advice will and going piece by piece will help.

IMO the best place to start would be protection mods then go from there. Good luck

I actually ran into 12k mula

here is what i am doing 

trailworx bumper 

roll cage 

light upgrades (light forces HID 240 blitz)

secret

some sort of rear upgrade not sure what i will do yet, either a long travel (not just progressive springs)

power stop rotors front and rear

Max if i told ya i would have to kill ya! ;) it might not happen now as my rear shocks are toast and my front LCAs may need new bushings

Depending on the type of wheeling you are going to be doing I would go Sliders, skid plates, Lift. You should also look at either CB or Ham radio as it is always good to be able to communicate with others on the trail.
