FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Hey Guys,
Does anyone in the SJ area have a transmission jack I might be able to borrow for a weekend?
I'm helping a buddy of mine change out his throttle bearing, and we have no way to keep everything in place short of trying to hold it by hand.
We are looking to do the work on the 17th of August, so there is still time.
Thanks!
Mike

Throw out bearing? I wish I had one my fjs getting a squeak.
Replace the pressure plate while you are in there or it will blow out again soon... The fingers get weak and uneven then the bearing runs uneven making it wear faster... Im buying a clutch kit with pressure plate and bearing on amazon its not to much
Don't even think about doing that unless you do it all.
disk, pressure plate or cover, TO bearing and recut the flywheel.
Parts are cheap and it will save you the hassle of doing it again for a while unless you like pulling trannys in the driveway.
Oh yea, we are doing the whole thing, but the primary purpose was to fix the throw out bearing since its starting to squeak. We haven't decided if its better to take the flywheel into a shop and have it ground down a bit or buy a new one entirely.
We were looking into the Sachs replacement kit. (he doesnt have an fj)
I'd probably just cut it...
If it was stepped I'd probably buy a new one because if they don't cut the step correctly then it will effect the squeeze that the pressure plate has on the disk, then your back to pulling it back out. I have done a ton of clutches and probably replaced a very small amount. Mainly from ring gears that you couldn't remove.
Good to know! Ill keep that in mind. Thanks!
