Making a custom tool box out of aluminum diamond plating for my roof rack.

So Im tired of throwing my tools and tow straps and such in the back of my FJ so im making a custom sized tool box to fit on my roof rack and be bolted down up there. The size of the box is 39''x11"  and 6 inches tall. Im going to put dividers in it as well to separate my tools. I still Have to make the lid for it and put the hinges on it but here it is sitting on my roof rack so far.Once its all done the lid will sit over all the edges so it will be completely weather proof.  There's more pictures attached. Should be able to finish it up this week.

Nice, cant wait to see the finished product!

I see you didnt pull a flange on the corners, left it raw. Did you weld the corner joint?

Is that 18ga or 16ga or lighter?

Steve Hope.

Yea I TIG welded the corner joint, and I believe its 14ga. The dividers will strengthen it up alot as well.

Nice idea. Our garage did the same for a hand tool box for the top of our fire engine. Great way to store stuff that's needed, yet not often enough to have immediately at hand.

Looks good, ya Toyota should have put a 8' to 10" deep cargo bin under the back floor mat kind of like the Ridgeline pick up truck.

Nice work!

Got the lid all finished up, now just gotta make some latches and mount it to the rack.
