Best Tires and wheels for snow ????
I am a new FJ owner (since laborday) and I just love my '08 ARB FJ Crawler but last Tue nite we got alot of snow here in Sonora, and for the first time I got to try it out in snow. Sadly it didn't do well at all. At one point it actually slid sideways (while stopped) I am running BF Goodrich All Terrain A/T 305/65R 17" on PRO COMP wheels (and ready for new Tires, abot 30% tread left) and although I love the way they look I am quite sure there is a better hook-up for snow. Now about 90% of my driving is highway with about 9% off road and just a wee bit snow duty but by God I want it to work well that 1% of the time. I want to be the guy pulling people out of the ditch not needing to be pulled out. I should also include that although I am somewhat concerned about looks, I am very much more interested in performance. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Welcome. I have both bfg muds and bfg a/t. I love them both. The a/t's seem to be a little better for the snow and street. The muds seem to perform better in the mud and rocks. Airing down the tires helps a lot too. The a/t's are also quieter on the road with better mileage too.

I just had a great time in the snow last saturday, with BFG T/A 265/75/16 . No slipping, sliding, just went were I pointed it.
Btw, was locked and low. Suprised at how well they performed because in the mud they are horrible, plug up and wont clear, but in the snow they were good.

Disappointingly, I ran a set of Toyo's on my S-10 Blazer a few years ago and only got 23,000 miles out of them before they were bald., less than 2 years!!.Very soft compound, grippy but gone in no time.

I have blasted MUCHO miles in snow with a few tires. I am a big fan of the Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I was running Nitto Terra Grapplers (325/65/17) on a F150 Supercrew. I loved them in the snow so much I put them on Cappy. A bit smaller though at 285/70/17. These tires handle very well in deep powdery snow and on solid ice at highway speeds (35mph). The rare occasion that they slipped it was only for a millisecond and corrected themselved immediately.
They handle well on the highway in wet and dry conditions with minimal road noise.

I run a set of BFG A/Ts most of the year, and they get some snow use here in ther park. I've loved them.
Before I bought those, I was running the stock Dunlops and picked up a set of cheap studded tires for the true winter months (and haven't really had much use for them last year, or much this year--but still run them during those months). They are Mastercraft Courser MSRs, and I've been happy with them.
