FEELER Thinking of a High Sierra trip 7-5 to 7-7

This is just a feeler...

My cousin and I were thinking of heading up to the Mammoth Lakes area the 4th of July weekend.  Looking to see if anyone else would like to join us.  Not sure how the road to the camping area will be, but we are going to take our chances. 

Probably Thursday morning camp a few days, wheel in the Mono Lake Area and head home Saturday or Sunday.  Does anyone know if a permit is needed?  I have a fire permit...I am thinking it's BLM land so no permit is needed.  We will most likely stay in the famous Nor-cal High Sierra camp area.

Please provide any suggestions.
