FJ Cruisers of Northern California

some of you know that I was planning a trip to hungry valley this weekend but instead my friend and I were thinking about going to the Tahoe area. We would be camping and wheeling Thursday thru Monday. I think we are trying to hit eagle lakes, Forest Hill, and Mammoth Bar. I don't know too much about any of these areas so if there is something we should avoid or something we should definitely hit let me know! He has a 6in lifted Chevy with 35's so nothing too narrow would be preferable. If you guys want to meet up or anything it is always fun to wheel with more people! Post up here if you have any advice on places to go or anything! I don't have my CB wired up yet but do have the cellular (510)386-6487

Mamoth bar I believe is for atv/ dirt bikes only I think. As far as trails in Foresthill, don't know of anything other than fire roads. There is Hell Hole but not recommended for you guys. If going up 80, eagle lakes would be fine.

Is there anything else near that area that we could hit? Cuz I'm not too sure we would want to stay in eagle lakes for 5 days

Signal Peak?

Eh....... I would not recommend signal peak. I have done the trail before but I wouldn't again. I have a fear of heights. You combine that with off camber spots with loose rocks, no thank you.

Signal Peak is a cool trail, not to hard but there are a couple of challenging spots. A bunch of knot-heads went through there a few weeks ago and knocked boulders into the trail. So it is probably more difficult now than when I went through. The view from the top is worth it though.

I like spending time in the lakes basin recreational area located off HWY49 and HWY89. You could run Eagle lakes and then take I-80 east towards Truckee. Then take HWY 89 towards Graeagle. I like to camp at Gold Lake 4x4 campground. You camp on the shore of the lake. Also there is big network of OHV trails located near the campground. You can visit Little Gold Lake, Upper and Lower Sardine lake. The locations are plenty.

How's the fishing in those lakes?

There's always bear valley loop, 15 miles north of Truckee off of 89.

that trail is usually overgrown and depending on the WB of Lumbajak's buddy with the chevy, it may not be ideal. Its only fun towards the end, most of it is just a overgrown fire road. Doesn't hurt to run it tho, just better options out there IMO.

well we are camping at eagle right now and its pretty nice! Gonna do the trail tmrw and see where that takes us. I think we are going to camp around lake Tahoe for the rest of our trip. Anyone thinking of joining us at all?

i work sat cant go out till sunday

well my buddy and I missed the signs for eagle and accidently went up fordyce creek ! We made it almost to the water crossing before we had to turn back because we just couldn't made it any further. We ended up going back down fordyce and then we hit Tahoe today and did a few trails there now camping at eagles. We will do the eagles trail at 9am tomorrow morning if anyone would like to join us!
