Thanks you guys, your setups are sweet, especially the homemade ones. I looked at the proclip - very nice, but unfortunately outta my price range.
Also, thanks for the heads-up on Cali law stating window mount is a no-no. Figured it wouldn't be long-term.
My Arkon's suction mount is a whopping 3" in dia, reason why I can't find a practical space anywhere on the dash to place. My latest thoughts are either right next to and left of the compass/inclimeter cluster or on silver trim panel to the left of the steering wheel below vent. Though I don't like those spots either.
Sucks if I have to spend the extra $ and go proclip.
That's a pretty cool looking mount Rob. If only I wasn't saving that space for future switch panel.
Sorry for the bump, but I finally got pictures of my setup.
It's a galaxy nexus mounted with a modified galaxy nexus dock and panavise mount. The phone itself has 3 contact points and the dock itself has 3 pogo pins that transfer data and charge the phone. It is hardwired into the fuse box so as soon as i plug the phone in, it begins charging and the audio is transmitted to the aux input. It works great as a GPS device with google nav (which is awesome BTW).
looks great, what app are you running? I haven't seen anything like that before.
It's called car dashboard (pro). I liked it better than the other, also popular, car dock app.
wish i got that instead of the pioneer navi, good choice!
Thanks!
Hey guys I found this on this web site about the law in CA
http://blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2011/10/gps-windshield-mounts-lega...
and the quote says
"Residents of California and Minnesota used to be subject to a GPS windshield ban. More recently, these states have upgraded their statutes to allow windshield mounting when placed in specific locations.
California residents can use a GPS windshield mount if it is located within the lower corners of the windshield. Passenger-side mounts can occupy a 7-inch corner square, while driver-side mounts can only occupy a 5-inch corner square."
so they are not prohibited to use. they just have to be in curtain spots on the windshield. FYI
