Slick Rock and Corral Hollow wheeling trip 6/9/12

(original thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/northern-california/219170-norcal-...)

The trip will be at Slick Rock & Corral Hollow.

Friday camping group: Meet at the Stockton Autozone (3828 East Main Street, Stockton) at 1:00PM. It's pretty much where the 99 and 4 intersect, then caravan from there. From there, it'll probably take 2.5 hours to get to Silver Creek where we can set up shop and maybe wheel a little or fish.

Saturday morning group: Plan on meeting at the Bear Valley gas station at 8:00AM (map) where GHOST will lead this group to meet the rest of us at the campsite ~4 miles down the road.
Note that this gas station will not be open for service at that time, but if you want to fill up that morning, you can stop at Chevron in Arnold

Trail had snow on first half mile. Muddy in spots and alot of loose rocks. Fun as always but I think those with out skids and lockers need to be cautious. I would highly recommend sliders, lift, 33" tires. Those without skids will have to take it slow to avoid hitting bottom and those without a locker will prob need to winched up the very last obstacle. For the long WB rigs, you might have to do some multiple point turns for some sections. Anything is doable if you have the will. Take a look at my rig from top to bottom and you'll see what I mean. Can it be done, yes. Can it be done cleanly, no. Made the last obstacle the hard way too. Also for those with open air filters like a cold air, if the water crossing does not get lower might have to think about changing it out.

Just FYI, I know there is a meet-up planed for Bear Valley gas station at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning - that gas station doesn't open till 9:00 AM. Closes at 5:00PM on friday.

That is good to know. Thanks.

Ahh ok thanks for the heads up. I think it's still a good meet up point for those coming up on Saturday morning, maybe just fill up somewhere before?

Unless you guys know of any place better for the Saturday folks?

Arnold would be the next best bet for gas/food, and the gas prices are usually less expensive than Bear Valley. It's about 25 miles before (west) Lake Alpine. Bear Valley is still the best meet up location. There's a large parking lot across from the gas station/store.

Great info. I'll pass this on to TW. Thanks!

I wont know until Friday night, but I may be able to make Saturday's run.  My CB is outta commission, no FRS, not sure how I will communicate on the trail...

just call me friday night, either way.

Hey Cha, as of now Bill and I are planing on going on the run. We will be headed up on friday and will catch up with the camping group friday evening. I have one problem, my ABS is having a problem and is not working as of yesterday - still trying to track it down - shows a abs code 34, left rear wheel speed sensor malfunction I think - I'll take a look at it tomorrow - So my 4wd works, my locker works, but my A-track doesn't work - I haven't done this trail before, do you think I should be concerned enough to cancel on the run?

I don't think it would be much of an issue. My concern would just be that your brakes work. When I last did the trail i don't remember how many times the atrac activated but I don't recall it being alot if any. Some of the taco guys won't have atrac and I believe one or two rigs won't have a rear locker. So as long as your 4WD/ locker works and you feel your FJ is safe to drive you should be ok.

yeah thats me. no atrac and no rear locker

Yeah him.^ :)

Brakes are working fine, though I'm sure my ABS is not working. Tested the rig out around the house and the only problem I had was a little wheel spin on a steep incline with loose gravel. I don't think I'm any worse off than the tacos with out A-track.
