FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Well after many years of wanting to build my own OBHS heat exchanger i finally did.As i found out it was alot harder then i anticipated. After many designs in my head and on paper and after building 6 prototypes and testing.I setteled on one that i was really happy with.As i found out real soon copper is really expensive :( But the results are well worth it for me.The heat exchanger is made out of 2" copper tubbing and is 12" long and has 20' of tubbing inside the 2" tube. The water has to pass 3 times inside the 2" copper tube before it goes out to the shower head. That is only running the water thru the heat exchanger only once.I spliced the OBHS exchanger using the bottom hose coming out of the FJ heater. The OBHS exchanger heats supply water 59F up to 120F with the FJ at only 1500rpm.Still working on a flip up shower arm from my ARB bumper.Let me know what you guy's think

Well where do i start manoweb.I always wanted a R&M they were making them back when i was i high school. And i never had a rig that i could build up and never had the money for one.fast forward to when i bought my FJ and really wanted to build my vehicle exactly how i wanted but still didnt have the money for one. By the time i could the company went out of business or at least i could never find one to order or get in touch with anyone from the company. So i knew i could build one and felt i could make one better.I went to school as a auto mechanic and worked as one for years how im a stationary engineer.and in my off time im always in the garage fabricating or building something.

Good! I like that and I really wish I had the skills for fabrication, like my dad had.

Now, I also had to wait several months to be able to get a R&M and at the end Ranger Jim told me they were selling it at the Swap&Meet in Petaluma...

My wife hates it that im always in the garage. I tell her at least she knows where i am.Not at bar or strip club:). She likes watching reality shows i like being in the man cave building .thats my favorite place to be reminds my of the good old days working on stuff in the garage with my grandfather i really miss him he could build or fix anything
Manoweb sorta strange if he is still making them.all the companies that used to sell them said they could never get a hold of him and his website is down hum. Do you have his number by chance?

I would need to check for his number, I will do that later. So where do you live? Sure I would like to compare the two products! I am in Hayward

Hey manoweb im in campbell. Monday Tuesday Wednesday i work till 4pm and i have Thursday and friday off

Paul Decker in Petaluma was the guy selling the RM. He has a website http://www.hotcampshowers.com/vehicle_mounted_shower - it shows they are out of stock.

I have Paul's tankless water heater. Works awesome, especially when you don't have unlimited water to draw from. everything fits into a small action packer, and will provide the entire camp showers on a small (2lb) propane tank. I have tried running it on the disposable propane bottles yet.
