FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Hey guys n gals...
I moved to the bay area last August with my wife. She got a job offer that we couldn't refuse so we took the plunge and here we are. I was actually quite lucky when we first got here because I found a freelance contract that lasted until the end of December. Since that time however, I've been searching and calling and emailing with no luck.
So, I thought I'd throw it out there that I am a freelance art director looking for any sort of gig, be it big or small. I have a lot of experience with both print and web work, though I'm not a programmer. I live in Half Moon Bay, so I'd like to stay on this side of the bay, but would certainly do offsite work with maybe driving in one or two days a week.
Here's my temporary portfolio site:

Thanks!

Good luck, I'll keep you in mind if I ever need extra help or someone to cover for me.
Thanks sandstorm. yeah, I know about creative hotlist. hasnt seemed to be anything posted on there recently though. been checking krop and indeed, and hell even craigslist but not getting any responses.
Ugh that doesn't make me feel too good about looking for a job in the next few months (I'm a graduating graphic designer).
plenty of jobs around for a jr. designer fresh out of school. it becomes more difficult when you move up the ranks, as the available job pool gets smaller.
my recommendation is to get yourself on as many relevant creative services job boards (The Creative Group, etc.) and email lists (KITlist, etc.) as you can. even use social media (e.g. Twitter and Facebook) to create your own brand and make it easier for people to find you. many recruiters are reaching out to talented individuals these days. also, if you haven't already, create/update your LinkedIn profile and include your link to a portfolio. do you prefer working at a CS agency or in-house corporate?
a lot of it is who you know, but at least with the above, you can begin to put the dots together and see how folks are connected. you may be surprised that you are one of those in the know. i'll keep an eye out for you since i get creative listings in some of my streams. best of luck!
Yeah, already done all that. This isn't my first rodeo, unfortunately. I've met with Group and Circle and have my LinkedIn updated along with everything else. You hit the nail on the head though. Its all about networking and who you know and, being new to SF, I don't know too many people.
oh, the other part... I'd work at either an agency or in-house, with agency being my preference.
