to all the people planning on camping at SNT remember there will be wind and fog and maybe even rain so pack and plan accordingly
I stayed at pacific plaza resort last year. Its the closest hotel to the gate. It was 110 per night, condo style with a full kitchen., living room, bed, bath, fireplace. Laundry was free also. I stayed as late as i could driving the dunes then headed back to the hotel to sleep. I did miss the mornings there though, but my wife cannot stand the cold.
sleeping on the beach is definitely not for everyone and some choose to stay at the local hotels. either way, we've all still had fun during the day and into the early evenings.
if you want to stay on the beach, but are worried about the wind and dampness, the Flying V (aka Taj Mahal) does a relatively good job in breaking the wind (and it doesn't even smell!). there are other ways to prevent your tent from flying away, etc. as well, so just voice your concern and we'll tell ya how it is.
