Sand Driving on stock tires and rims

I only air down to about 18 psi.....don't know what others will/would recomend but 12 psi sounds like a little too low to me. Air down before you go into the soft sand and have to air down after you're stuck. Be careful spinning donuts on the beach or near campsites as you can get a ticket for it....the rangers are tricky as they not only ride in trucks but Razors too. Make sure you air back up before you hit the pavement, if you don't have a portable air compressor, during the day they have a vender that will air you up for a $1 a tire but after dark you're on your own for air.

Thanks for the info.  Ya last time I went I didnt air down at all and I was able to go anywhere and I didnt get stuck at all (except for when I first got there I kept it in two wheel drive and went into some soft sand just to see if i could get it stuck.  I was able to get it out really easily after putting it in 4hi).  Anyway the main reason I wanted to air down is because I just picked up a Viair 450p portable air compressor and I wanted to use it to air back up haha.  Anyway thanks for the advice.  12 sounded pretty low to me too.

i usually take mine down to 12 psi on the sand in my FJ and in my jeep, 8-10 psi on the rocks, but thats on 35x12.50x15s.  with 285/65/18's on my FJ, i'll do brodys all day and wont lose a bead.  and i'm talking tight, WOT brodys.  i have a stiffer sidewall than the stock tires, but i wouldnt be too worried.  you could probably stay at 15lbs and be just fine.  18 is just not low enough for the tire to start working on my rig.
