I ended up at Bald Mountain this past weekend.... broke my radiator

So this past weekend we ended up camping at the trail head of Bald Mountain. The camp site we found was nice with a nearby stream. I got there late Friday night and woke up early on Sat, cooked some breakfast, and hung out at camp until noon. We hit the trail and stopped several times along the way to take photos and hang out. We reached the top of Bald Mountain around 3:00pm (what an amazing view) where there was some other jeeps and what not having a BBQ. We hung out there for about an hour and then headed back. On my way back I must have missed a turn end ended up what didn't seem like a trail to me. I could see the trail a couple hundred yards away and decided to cut across this granite slab which had a dead fallen tree across it. The tree had several large branches and was quite substantial in size. Needless to say it was a bad idea to try and go over it. Once my front wheels were ove the tree it started dragging it under my rig. I tried to reverse and that only made the situation worse. I said fock it and hammered down and went over the tree. A mile or so down the trail I looked down at my guages and saw my temp sky rocketing towards the red, by this time it was getting close to dusk. I pulled over and looked under the rig to fing that I cracked the radiator alonng the plastic side nearly 6 inches. I hung out there for about 30 minutes and along came a couple jeeps and a toyota p/u. I was still several miles from the trail head. One of the jeeps towed me all the way through the trail, and I only had to start it up a couple times to get through some technical areas where he couldn't tow me. Tried to offer the guy some money but he denied it. On Sunday I had my rig towed to Mikes Radiator (Fresno) which was closed so I had to get a hotel room. On Monday they were able to find a new radiator and have it installed. By the way I would definately recomend this radiator shop to anyone. They searched around and found the cheapest radiator for me, installed with a new t-stat, and cleaned the engine compartment for under $350.00. I couldn't even find a radiator that was cheaper then $280.00. Overall I had a graet trip, even with the mishap.

Sucks that this happened....glad you got home safe. A lesson to us all - always stay on the designated trail (tread lightly).

Yep! My intentions were to stay on the trail but in some areas it was hard to tell which direction the trail was going.

I was there at the exact same time, can't believe I missed you. I almost got lost on the way down too and I've done that trail a dozen times. The Jeep guys were stacking rocks, but the trail they marked out wasn't one I've seen before.  Glad you got it fixed.
To bad I missed you! Yeah that was my first time up there. I got turned around a few times.
