hey, NorCal!
DWH and i are pleased to announce that NorCal FJs has plans to adopt its first trail in Long Canyon. Long Canyon is located in the Eldorado National Forest.
by adopting the trail, we will be scheduling trail cleanups and maintenance runs approximately 3-4 times throughout the season. cleanups include trail clearing (e.g. downed trees, overgrown brush, rocks, etc.), signage repair, and water flow maintenance. paperwork is being finalized at the moment and if all works out, we will be paying our first visit to the trail in the late May/early June timeframe.
in the coming weeks, we'll begin discussions regarding our stock of equipment (e.g. chainsaws, shovels, winches, etc.) and recommended items (e.g. gloves, protective eyewear, hard hats, etc.), so please keep an eye out for the discussions.
depending on the total number of volunteers planning to assist, we are asking all volunteers to plan for a minimum of two visits to the trail throughout the season. we will limit the number of trucks on these volunteer runs to 8-10.

we would like to volunteer if the timing is good, probably not the first visit but later ones are definitely possible (and a good excuse to go somewhere!)

I am unable to commit physically. But if you (Tater, bkreece, DWH, bigfish) need chainsaws, trailers, tools, etc. Please let me know. Thanks for all the support.

Another great contribution by the Norcal FJs. I'm always amazed at the great participation by this group. Well...looks like we're well passed the 10 volunteer mark but add me to the list anyways.

Having more than 10 is good. Not everyone will be available at a particular time. And we will have multiple runs each year.
The more the merrier.

quick update: paperwork has been submitted and received, so we are good to go there. it turns out that there is another group that had adopted the trail back in 2008, but may need our help to keep the trail maintained. i have asked Eldorado to look into other possible trails in the vicinity that we can adopt as well, so that we can make a couple visits each to Long Canyon and another trail each season. will keep you posted!
