Hi everyone,

I got a crazy deal on some Pro Comp 9" HIDs over the weekend and I am thinking about mounting these on the front bumper. Since these lights retail for around $530 a piece, I really want to make sure they are secure and impossible or at least hard to steal. Has anyone figured out a way to do this? I am thinking my best bet at this point is to either safety wire the heads and threads in a way to at least deter theft, or try and locate a 3/8" or 1/2" bolt with a hole through the threads so I can secure a small lock to them. Any ideas or insight you have on this would be really appreciated....

Thanks

I thought a saw a special type of nut at one point in time that was at least supposed to serve as a theft deterrent....other than that the options you mentioned would help as well. If you don't already have a solid alarm system (one with two way paging) that may be something to look into.

PIAA used to make some locking nuts.  Also check LIGHTFORCE.  Just make sure the thread size matches yours.

yeah theyre something called a barri nut and can be found here if your looking for some.

Yup the barri nut is the only thing you can do to to reduce the chance of someone walking off with your lights.

If a thief wants them they will get them no matter  what you do, but the barri nut will slow most down.

Yup thats the one i was thinking of. Like opg said though you are just making it less attractive to theifs...thats all we can do. If they really want to take them they will.
You can put a very small weld bead at the end of threads. Not threads to nut, you need to be able to adjust lights. If you need to remove the lights you grind off.
Yep, what Sandstorm said, thats what we do out in the field for the parks when we don't want people walking off with signs, gates, etc...  Weld a bead.
Thanks for all the replies! I will check out those locking nuts but I think I will probably weld a bead on as this seems somewhat full-proof. Thanks again, I can always count on some good feedback here.
just put a spot weld on the nut and mounting surface.  If you ever need to remove the nut, just grind of the weld.
