I love the Lost Coast, used to backpack along the beach for miles when it was BLM land,in some places you had to wait for the tide to go down because the Kings range mountains were so steep there, but every couple of miles a little stream would empty into the ocean with great camping spots next to them.ever been to the mouth of the Mattole(?) river? i think there is a old abandoned light house just south of there? and i remember seeing old "jeep" trails running north and south along the King range with a route down to the beach every once in a while.alot of history connected with the area in the 18 hundreds.wish i could go,but commited to other things this weekend.
thanks for the advice! i've been up and around that area numerous times, but never in the camping/wheeling capacity, which will soon change hopefully.
Hmmmm i will let you know

Not that I can go, ( although, I would love to)

But how long of a drive would that be?

from the Bay Area to Eureka is about 5.5 hours.
hmmm... I was planning to go to HH but this interests me as well. You planning to hike or wheel? And if so what difficulty are we talking about for both.
not sure...may do a bit of exploring, but it won't be a full day thing. probably be more of a social with a visit to the local breweries.
i believe you can go west from garberville to shelter cove(?) we used to be able to drive on the beach for a mile or so north, but that may have changed since it became part of a state park?Sinkeonye wilderness (sp?) anyway, good luck/have fun.
So you must be talking about the Lost Coast and Mad River breweries We also have a great brewery in Fortuna called the Eel River brewery, Just off River Walk drive I think it is the Kenmar Exit.

ah, yes, leave it to Steve. of course you would know! heh

may actually try out Six Rivers in McK. join if you have no plans...i've got some decals for ya!

Steve let me know when you'll be @ Six Rivers or in the area.  Give me a call and will try to meet up with you.
