Dec 14 Recovery Clinic Holllister with Tim Scully

So you have a winch, Hi-lift Jack and tow straps do you know how to use them properly and safely? Many people have these tools, but don't know how or when they should use them.

Tim Scully has offered to hold a basic skills and recovery class at Hollister Hills on Sunday Dec 14th. starting at 9 am staging at between 8-9

For those of you that haven't met Tim, this is something that Tim does professionally with both Toyota for the Trail Teams and Land Rover.

Tim's credentials

• 2006 East Coast Trail Team lead driver (07,08 backup)
• Crawford’s Fall Crawl 2002, Tellico, NC, champion
• East Coast Rock Crawling Championship 2002, champion
• Land Rover TreK 2000, White Sulphur Springs, W.VA, champion
• Land Rover Global TreK 2001, South Africa, third place

What we are looking at doing is a 3 or 4 hour session learning how to winch properly, failed hill climbs, etc. Followed by a trail run around Hollister.

Tim's looking at a $25 (not including park fee)per head with a 20 Rig maximum we would like to have at least 5 rigs. 25 bucks is a deal since this is something that normally would cost you 150 or more depending on who your working with.

I can tell you from personal experience that every time I run with Tim I learn something new.

Update you don't have to have recovery gear,

We will be starting at 9am.. We might have Area 5 but that has not yet been confirmed. If we don't get Area 5 we will meet at the school house at the main gate to the upper ranch. Please try and be on site by 8:45am.

Update 2

We have all been hearing that it's supposed to rain in the Bay Area this weekend, however Hollister is far enough south that it tends not to get the same amount of rain the the Bay Area has. Unless the weather is completely hosed and it's coming down in buckets we will still have the session. I would however recommend that you bring rain gear and dry clothing to change into.

Also having a good pair of gloves is a must, and if possible I would recommend having a pair of safety glasses in your truck as well.

UPDATE 3
Just a Heads up we are still doing this rain or shine, just got down working with Tim today with Land Rover.

We will be meeting at AREA 5.

PM me if you are interested.

i had a great time, although i was trying to think of a more creative way to get stuck than on that same log that seems to want to reach out and hug my FJ everytime. dumb log. thanks for setting up the informative session OPG and Scully! looking forward to the next one.
Tim and I had a great time with this clinic. I think that there was some great questions and some great practice with Mutato's stuck rig. It's all about practice and application.

Let me know if there is anything that we didn't go over that you want in a future session and anything that you think would benefit a future clinic. We want to make sure all of you get some great knowledge out of these sessions.
Recovery tip #168 "AAA Premier" is well worth it if you chose not to use the winch for 150+ miles.
I had a good time meeting everyone. This was a nice intro to some NorCal Fj members and Tim.

This was the first time I had been out on a trail with a group. There is definitely a sense of safety in numbers.

Thanks again everyone, see you next time.
I had a blast guys!!! Big Thanks for OPG for getting this started! Everytime I get out in the woods wheeling it is a great day! Thank you guys for coming out and participating. If you have any questions or feedback let me know.

, Learned many new things to do and not to do. Potato Mutato TOFTT on the new petrified Dinosaur DoDo. Tim Scully checkin'er out.
Does anyone know if there will be any video posted of this trip?
Well if it was you than it must have been luck....
Did not know it was a compitition..
Well maybe Scully was using the winch to show you foolio's how it works and how to use it..
BTW that the second time Potato got stuck in that same spot and same area under the truck..should of never got those buds..lol
Rather get hung up on the buds than go naked and break something.... foolio' ... hehehe
Yup you got it right it was to show how to do a self winch to get through a spot that could be dangerous and tippy. The 90 is 18 inches shorter and was in danger of going over backwards
