FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Hi! I was wondering what is the best way to carry trash when going on the trail. I remember somebody got the trasharoo bags but I thought they were a bit small, especially for a family, and the enormous amount of thrash that a baby generates.
I remember a couple of years ago somebody had bigger "jute" bags with an FJ logo...

THe trasharoo can accommodate a beer keg worth of trash...if that's not enough then bring a few extra hefty trash bags.
...find a trash can and throw your stuff away!
I was looking for something able to keep say a regular 30gal trash bag. In the past I tried two bags inside each other tied to the spare but vibrations, bumps, and sharp objects made that solution "not good"
Find a trash can..., was that... a joke? :)
I do not doubt the quality of the Trasharoo. The only thing I was wondering if there was a bigger one.
Why don't you come up anyway next week? I have to introduce Leo to the norcalfj crew. I started yesterday with 5and5torm ;)
The 'jute' bags hold less and were hand made. All you need to do is head to a fabric store, buy the material, a sewing machine and industrial strength thread and needle and make it as big as you want. FYI, they are NOT water proof.
Back in Black, IMO, this is not such a strange question if traveling in areas where there are no trash cans and if you are out there for multiple days....with a baby and all the diapers they go through.
Oh I thought they were bigger...
And yes, I would always put a plastic thrash bag in it (don't you do that with the trasharoo?)
I was really hoping in a "bigger" trasharoo. Anyway, do you know where I could find somebody with a sewing machine?
PS a BIG trash bag is also useful to pick up garbage left by others
I usually carry at least 1 extra large stuff sack along with garbage bags when I go camping. The stuff sack provides strength to the liner bag and it is light and small when empty. It provides me a way to hang my garbage in bear/raccoon country.
Not sure how well you could strap it to the tire but you could certainly strap it to a rack.
Based on your previous comment that the trasharoo is too small the ones I use would probably not work. Mine are about 10 gallon and I use the 13gallon trash bags.
They may make larger ones (or maybe a duffle bag) but the ones I have are too small i think.
