Welcome to Step Cal FJ's

"We're not a club, more like a band of nomads traveling throughout California."

How did we get the moniker? Being from the vast area of central California we don’t fit into the usual breakdown of north or south, we are the step children of California. California Nomads who wheel with both groups all over California and the Western United States.

Hi everybody! Awful quiet, anybody have any local runs planed? I've checked the norcal schedule but there's only one event and I can't make it... So I thought I'd put my ear to the ground! :)

The three day weekends at Pismo have a max of 1,000 vehicles on the beach. They sell out holidays in advance so you would all need reservations in advance, and it would be very crowded. Give them a call and ask if it is sold out yet, thanksgiving is sold out. I'm going to start a thread for our next social; Firestone Brewery in Buellton is central and has great beer!

Yes, there are some local runs around San Luis County. Pine Mountain, Las Chicas and Garcia Ridge are all close. The rest are very easy forest type roads and trails. I will bring my maps and trail guides for you on Thursday; Wes is a San Luis trail rat and can give better advice than I can. He put us on Las Chicas trail on Sunday and it had some nice rock obstacles on it, turned out to be a fun run. I still don't think our FJ's can make the steps on Pine Mountain. Need a big lift, 6", big tires, 35" +, armor and a winch. It can be done, but recovery with any broken parts would be very hard, it’s narrow with drop off on both sides. It should be done in the morning with plenty of time for repairs and/or recovery IMHO. The short way in takes you to the bottom, the longer way in takes you to the top and would be easier as you could slide down a lot of rock on your armour.

If any of you have any ideas about some good trails jump in here!

Hi Dave
Can you tell me if there are any runs close to Pismo that I might be able to do during the day. I am not into playing in the sand.

If you post any new photos of the central cal area or you have some old ones you want to share, add a "stepcal" tag to them and they will turn up in the trail photos section for the group.

Welcome all to the Step Cal FJ's group. We have Tater to thank for the web help and the space with NorCal! There has been some interest on the blue room regarding wheeling in Central Cal and this should help with organizing the step children.

If we can get a local meet and greet going in the next couple weeks that would be great, if not we will all be at Surf & Turf Next month with the NorCal group.
