FJ Cruisers of Northern California

We have been talking about another Step Cal camping trip so this is my idea for late June when we can get in to a very nice area.  Dates are tough to pick with all the runs going on in July, so it will have to be the end of June.

A four day trip to Monache Meadows, Thursday 6/23/11 to Sunday 6/26/11.  It will be a Fishing and Camping trip, the road in is for four wheel drive vehicles but any stock FJ can get in there.  The place is fantastic and somewhat remote.  The fishing is artificial lures or flies with barbless hooks within the designated Wild Trout area.  There are Golden, Rainbows and Browns and some nice hiking on the South Fork of the Kern River.  You can find a lot of information on the area on Google and we posted a run on the blue room in the past.  These two links will give you plenty of pics and info on the area:

Let me know if you are interested, Teri is going to join me for this one, Travis will have to babysit the dogs.  It is another primitive camping area, you bring it in and you bring it out.

This is the same time as the Donner Lake trip but that is a bit North for us.  Give me your thoughts and if it looks good I will post an event up.  Don't forget to hit up step cal on face book also and send in your request to join the group.

Monache usually opens by mid June, if we can't get in for some reason we will pick a camp site near that area, possible Kennedy Meadows, we stopped by there during the Last Chance Canyon run and it would be a nice alternate area to camp, fish and enjoy a camp fire.

Hope to see you in the mountains soon!

hellz yeah! we'll see if i can get off work for it!

Anyone else interested?

Just found the post. I am interested, have to check with the wife.

If there isn’t enough interest we may go see Willy Nelson, Jaime Johnson, Randy Houser and Lee Brice at the Pozo Saloon.  Looks to be a good concert, I know Teri would rather do that than camp in the woods.  Let me know, Bryan was a maybe also.  Not a place to wheel in alone, 2 or 3 FJ's would be best.

This trip will be at a later date.  A great spot to camp and fish, maybe later in the year before the snow falls.  Pozo Saloon for the concert is the ticket!
Dave, I would like to join you guys on this one if you reschedule it. What about August?
Late August should work, I will be in Yosemite late July though the first week of August.  I will look at some dates and see whats going on.  It is a nice place to camp and fish.  We have the High Sierra run in September again, you going to make that one?

yes, I will be at High Sierra, hopefully early enough to claim the same little spot I was in last year. I have the entire week off so maybe I'll head up there on Monday. Come to think of all the other stuff going on and HSR over the next few months, my calendar may be a little tight, so I'll have to play it by ear if you do decide to plan it.

I also would like to get into a beginner fly fishing class before HSR, not sure if I can make it happen this summer but going to try my best.

Monache would be a good place to start the fly fishing.  Maybe we can do a quick three day run so we can get some fishing in up there.  I will be at the HSR for the week also and plan on doing more fishing this time, and some mine exploring.  I will get with you later and we can try to work out a trip before the HSR.
sounds good Dave!

might need to resurrect this trip idea

Now you're talking! Late June?  You guys go to Monache, I will join you if at all possible.
