Hi. I am very, very debated where to mount the antenna for 2m/70cm operation.

I do not like magnetic mounts. I am very willing to drill the roof and place it at the center of it, but then this would prevent me to get a roofrack and use it. My dream is also to have a rooftop tent.

Any advice? This is the main obstacle to mount a vehicular radio in my FJ.

I"ve been very successful with my Diamond 2m/440 dual band antenna on my non All-Pro Bandi mount. I've swept it with a MFJ-269 antenna analyzer and my match is damn near 1 to 1 across both bands I think I spike 1.3 to 1 at the highest point in 70cm. Sure you will get a bit of blocking with the antenna radiating into the D piller but I've yet to not be able to hit a repeater I've wanted to.

I've talked with Leonie and Bozly about a Ham specific mount from them since the mounting plate needs to be bigger to accommodate a UHF or N or NMO connector compared to a 3/8" connector. I plan on talking with Bozly about it on Saturday.
My concern is not much about SWR, but that position does not really offer a great ground plane like a flat roof below the antenna would do, and for this reason create a radiation pattern that is suboptimal, changes the quality of the communication depending on the direction I am driving etc...

Sure, one should do tests, and this kind of test require lots of time and effort... as the antenna is by far the most important component in the system, I always strive for the best location possible.

But maybe you are right, I should try the rear location first and see how it goes, and maybe compare it with a roof magnetic mount.
