FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hi everyone,

So those four lights decided to turn on tonight. I was sitting at the parking lot of my school and had no idea what it could be (wish I had a scanguage) so I thought maybe it could be the gas cover. Went back there and it was turned half off. I have a stant locking cap and hope I just didnt turn it all the way somehow and that no one managed to open it and siphon gas. I just wanted to make sure it could in fact be that and if I should go to the dealership in the morning. I'm going to pismo tomoro afternoon and was hoping I could get some suggestions or if it's safe to go on a 150 mile + trip.

If it is the gas cap doesnt it seem like a little overkill to turn on practically all the dash lights for something like that?

Thanks

I got a scangauge see ya tomorrow!
I got the same similiar issue, for me it's the right rear abs speed sensor (located on the disc brake) 200 to replace it, or drive without it (which I prefer for now), who the hell needs a computer to control your driving instincts

agreed

well hopefully i can get it sorted out by the time I leave for pismo otherwise I may just rely on the FJ gods to guide me to the sand!

I bet it's the gas cap.  Your not the first one to have this probem.

Q: If it is the gas cap doesnt it seem like a little overkill to turn on practically all the dash lights for something like that?

A: Yes. It's one of my biggest complaints about the fj.  Every 24-48hrs the fuels system does a pressure test.  If the slightest lea is detected you get the 4 lights of death.

I have an aux. fuel tank and the same thing happened to me.

alright well thats great to know. Will taking the negative terminal off for a few min fix it?

It will fix it temporarily.  If the cap is causing the leak you will get the codes back.  I played the game of taking the neg. terminal off every few days until I had the time to fix the problem.

If your going to leave the locking gas cap on you should just buy a scangauge assuming that is in fact the problem (I bet it is).

I got those CEL lights tonight.  My Scanguge II posted them as PO420 and P0430 codes, catalaytic converters effeciency are below threshold (for Bank 1 and 2 respectively).

No effect on the engine performance but I did not erased them yet. Will take the FJ to Toyota Vallejo next week.

I had the locking gas cap, and after a few months, my lights came on.  I had to go back to the stock gas cap.
Ended up being the gas cap...

Thanks everyone!!
