FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hey all.

I have two questions regarding the rear speakers that are located in the corners of the window columns and the wiring for the electrical outlet.

Rear Speakers

I popped open those plastic covers and noticed there is wiring all ready to go for speakers in those spots. I was thinking about installing some and I know the FJ's come with speakers there if you get the right package. I would prefer the OEM ones so I can get the plastic molds that go around the speakers so it looks more clean. I called the Dealership and they said they cost about $82. Obviously I'm not going to pay for two stupid pieces of plastic that cost more than the speakers do. Anyone know where I can find them cheap? I can't find them on eBay or BlueRoom.

Hey Bz, do we still get that NCFJ discount with that guy on Toyota One in Oakland?

* I did find these on eBay, but I don't like how they mount into the column (doesn't look very clean).

Electrical Outlet

I popped that cover open and saw a few wires, but I'm not sure if those wires are for the outlet. Do all FJ's (regardless of the package) come with the wiring already there for the outlet? I'm wondering because if they do, then I was thinking about installing one (but only if the wiring is already there because I really don't want to add more wiring to my truck).

Thanks for the help!

On the inverter outlet, no they do not come prewired it's more than just adding a switch and a plug.

Now if your looking to add just 12volt back there then that can be accomplished with some of the sub wiring that does preexist. There are a bunch of writeups in the blue room  This is one of them

Make sure you check both ends of the wires.

The wiring may be there for the speakers, but if there is nowhere to connect them to the deck it pointless.

Similarly, you need to have the converter in place to get 120VAC out of a 12VDC system.

I checked around the BlueRoom and all said you just have to mount the speaker, plug into the harness and it's good to go, so I'm assuming that means the wires are plugged into the deck (if not, that's still an easy fix).

As for the outlet, I think I'll pass if it involves more than hooking it up and adding a button... I mean, I probably wouldn't use it much anyways. Just figured it if was a really simply install, then might as well do it just to have.

I have the original rear speakers, still in my FJ but disconnected.
Disconnected where? At the speakers or the deck?
Disconnected at the rear speaker's connector/plug.
Yes we still get our discount at One Toyota 5105691111 and at Tracy Toyota Parts 888.315.7096 call and tell them you know me (Brandon), Bz and are a member of NorCal FJs
Ok excellent. How much of a discount do we get?
20% ish (I believe) off wholesale

Yea,

Toyota One gave me 20% off my rack. In my case I think it was retail pricing though.

Also I think the rear speakers come with the "premium sound" package.

The premium sound package consists of:

6 disk cd changer, 9 speakers, 1 speaker is the sub 2 are hidden in the headliner. Leather wrap steering wheel with radio controls built in. And there is an on/off switch for the sub in the center switch
panel.

Basically from what I've seen the standard radio is a little different than the "premium" one but I don't know if it has a jack for the rear surround speakers.

Nestor has a totally custom wired FJ. If I remember correctly from All Cal last year he even put in an in dash gps stereo from a camery in his rig.

Hope this ramble is of use.

Still debating on getting these. The speakers aren't an issue since they're so cheap, I'm just annoyed with the price of the grille covers. I'm sure I could just fab my own with the covers that are already on? Was thinking about just drilling out some slits.

I've heard a mixed review of these speakers on the BlueRoom. More so than others say they can notice a decent difference, while some others say there's barely any improvement in sound. I don't have the sub in the back though, so maybe that's the difference in noticing a difference?

You can have my rear speakers and covers.
Come to Vallejo with you blank speakers covers and a 12-pack San Miguel Pale Pilsen beer and will do the swap/install on your FJ.

If you are going to the Tracy Toyota greet & meet on the 13th August, we can do the swap there.
