FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Quick question for you all.
While doing my BMC, we noticed some grease on my fenderwall, and on my Left-outer CV boot. Initial reaction was that I must have torn it when I installed a 1/4 spacer for leveling.
Went out there today to clean it up and put some gorilla tape on it until I get to the dealership.
Heres what I noticed:
Theres actually very little grease on the boot at all, and it looks like where it hit on the fenderwall, it was just a quick 'spray'.
All of the grease looked very 'old', and pretty dry. I did not see any 'new' grease.
After cleaning it, I could not actually find a tear. It's a little scuffed, but bending and looking deeply, I couldnt get any 'tear' or hole to show up.
I have no sounds or alignment type issues whatsoever.
So here's my question, while in Death Valley for 4 days in January, could I have just torqued it took much somehow? Like too much turn+flex, etc? And caused it to squirt some out?
I did clean it to see if any 'new' grease appears, but wanted you opinions.

It took very little to clean. 2-3 paper towels and some hard rubbing as it was pretty dry.
What are the severity of those two dings in the first picture that are on the smallest section?
They are just surface 'crimps'. Squeezed and wiggled them. They don't go anywhere.
the clamps are likely loose get the proper sized hose clamps and you should be good
That's what I was hoping to hear. I can replace those without removing anything, correct?
Thanks.
Cool. Napa has the full boot/grease/clamp for $30. I could pick that up and have an extra boot/grease around as a spare.
Thanks again,
R
