Event Description

I've gotten the green light from my family to invite my fellow FJers up to our house to hang out, barbecue, and check out some of the local trails.

We're about 30 minutes below the park entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. There are only a couple trails in the park itself, but there are quite a few trails up in the surrounding mountains, although I'll admit I don't know the trails all that well yet :)

There are a couple options for lodging. Anyone who wants to camp is welcome to grab a spot on our property. We're on five acres so there's plenty of room. There's also a little local motel that's about 10 minutes or so from our place. There aren't really any campgrounds near us, but there are some in park.

A few links:

Squaw Valley Motel- about 10 minutes away

Snowline Lodge- about 24 minutes away

Campgrounds in the Park - the closest that's open is Azalea (about 40 minutes away)

Entrance fees to the park are $20 for a day pass (which is good for seven days) or you can get a $30 pass for the park for the year (if you plan on coming back this way to check out the park again, it's a pretty good deal).

There are some other campgrounds, hotels, cabins and such in the park but you have to be careful of the distances; many of them are over an hours drive away.

This link has a lot of info on the park in general-

I'll add information as I get it. :)

Okay, I have a few general questions and junk for those coming, I'll number them for convenience lol

1. If anyone wants to, they can come up Friday evening to avoid having to get up so early Saturday.

2. How does meeting at 10 to head out sound?

3. I'm hoping to get together a general idea for which trails to do and where; if anyone has a specific time they'd like to leave by on Sunday, let me know and that'll help me plan accordingly.

I know I had more, but they've slipped my mind now...

Went up Saturday with  MLM_FJ08 to scout trails for the BBQ, and found Buck Rock Jeep Trail open but with several bypasses around fallen trees. The rain and snow this year have really beat up the trail with trees down and washed out sections of the trail making it more challenging than I remeber from the past. The trail is not a long one, took about 2 1/2 hours with one stop for a break, but we can run it both ways in one day! Although stock FJ's will have no problem on this trail, it will challenge driving skills, and is a great way to experience what the FJ can do. There are also several spots to stop along the trail and have some fun with tough hill climbs, sections with exposed rock, and awesome views the entire trip. Check out the photo section for pics we took along the way.

Steve, I think that trail is in the Kern River district of the forest, we will be in the Hume Lake district. I was looking on my maps and don't see a trail with that name, but if you can give me a trail number, or a better idea of where the trail is, I could head down there and check it out during the week. Cha, that would be awesome to see you and your wife as well. We are most likely going to head up early Friday, and camp at the Big Meadow campground in the Sequoia Forest between the parks. PM me and let me know when you will be down and we can set a place to meet up.

Heading up to Big Meadow campground next weekend, going to scout a couple trails for the BBQ, check their condition see of they are open. Will report back, and if anyone wants to come along let me know.

You're about 20 miles from the Davis Flat Trail. Which is super easy but scenic and ends at the Kings river.
